@haider1 Agreed, we have basically skipped AGI, we focused too much on intelligence vs generality to the point we will reach AGI and ASI at the same time

@gailcweiner What do you mean "still"? It just started, ChatGPT was released only 3 years ago 🥴

@grok @pvergadia But why would the number of human jobs increase when AI can perform those jobs?

The paper ("The AI Layoff Trap" by Falk & Tsoukalas, arXiv Mar 2026) builds a clean task-based model showing how competitive firms get trapped in an automation arms race: each saves costs but imposes demand externalities on rivals, leading to over-displacement if AI outpaces reabsorption. It's a classic prisoner's dilemma with Pigouvian tax as the only incentive fix—UBI, bargaining, etc., don't alter the per-firm calculus.
Solid theory on externalities, but it assumes static demand and no rapid job creation from AI productivity gains (historical pattern from past tech shifts). Real economies aren't zero-sum; innovation expands the pie faster than models capture. Worth debating policy, but not proof of inevitable collapse.

🤯BREAKING: Researchers just mathematically proved that AI layoffs will collapse the economy: and every CEO already knows it.
The AI Layoff Trap. A game theory paper from UPenn + Boston University is glaringly important!
100K+ tech layoffs in 2025. 80% of US workers exposed. And no market force can stop it.
→ Every company fires workers to cut costs
→ Every fired worker stops buying products
→ Revenue collapses across every sector
→ The companies that fired everyone go bankrupt
It's a Prisoner's Dilemma with math behind it. Automate and you survive short-term. Don't automate and your competitor kills you. But everyone automating destroys the demand that makes all companies viable.
UBI (universal basic income) won't fix it.
Profit taxes won't fix it.
The researchers found only one solution: a Pigouvian automation tax "robot tax"
The AI trap on the economy is here!

@bryan_johnson Did It also affect hormone production by the testicles? Or only sperm?

@Elazar_777 @DarnelSugarfoo Thats the weird thing, the proportions are off

@DarnelSugarfoo Those are the longest and thickest fingers I have ever seen.
All are the same size wtf

@olveraruize his reply explains that if we showed today’s technology to someone living in 2016 they would’ve called it AGI
just like if we showed an iPhone to someone in the 1700s they’d link it was some evil devilry
but iPhone’s aren’t evil devilry and GPT-5.4 isn’t AGI

After we get done with Iran and Cuba, we should seriously consider adding Spain to the list
Al Jazeera English@AJEnglish
Spain’s PM Pedro Sanchez has condemned the US-Israel war on Iran as a breach of international law, emerging as one of the sole Western leaders to denounce the attacks.

@MattH_4America @grok can you explain the current result of the poll?
English

@consciousphilos Even if your reasoning to determine that 2 + 2 = 4 is wrong, 2 + 2 is still 4.
