Starting March 31st @ONThealth announced they will purposefully & systematically reduce healthcare access to those who are marginalized or under resourced. Ont govt will end a program that provided healthcare access to the uninsured. Here’s a 🧵 on what this means. 1/

Few things I've learned after a semester and a half of an MSc in epidemiology: - Critical appraisal is complicated - People who draw black and white conclusions are invariably wrong - Read the damn paper

Powerful deputation from @DrCarolynSnider, representing all downtown emergency depts. In the middle of a healthcare crisis, emergency depts are providing shelter and supports for homelessness because people have nowhere else to go. We need dedicated 24/7 drop-in spaces, now.

Anyone that understands complex systems...and its clear Nadia Surani does not...knows that relying on individuals to make up for system level dysfunction is a nonstarter In fact, such a "strategy" leads to nothing more than resentment, burnout and in fact worse outcomes... 4/

👏👏👏 This thread is a measured, first hand look at #CBME. Well said Riggsy. "assessment as imagined" clearly isn't "assessment as done" for CBME. The unintended consequences are worth acknowledging and #human-centered #design is needed.
Jamie Riggs@riggsy

CBME is a divisive issue in Canadian #MedEd. On one side the powers at be who conceived and designed the system. On the other are those that use it daily while also trying to practice medicine. As someone from the latter camp, I think about how we can make it better. A thread 1/

It is clear to me that CBME is here to stay. For the next design iteration (much needed), we need to understand perspectives from all sides and bring actionable items to the table. This includes input from arguably the most important end-user: the resident learner. (2/2)

@riggsy highlights important UX design “failures”(?). Also equally important to recognize that CBME is beyond just the EPA assessments. The package that is the CBD curriculum has merits (and leading educators had the best of intentions in creating it). (1/2)

After attending @EuropSocEM, what I realized is that the problems we have in Canada exist just about everywhere in the world. These are frightening times. Bigger than just blaming your government. These are sizeable complex problems that exist in emergency departments everywhere
