Even camels are dying of heatstroke. This is very upsetting. We are insane. Literally committing slow motion suicide and taking countless animals with us. Even camels can't cope: Africa's ships of the desert hit by rising temperatures bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Everyone needs to see this. Hundreds of Israeli settlers are coming down from hilltops and setting entire Palestinian villages on fire. Full on pogroms.

🚨The moment a Palestinian man seized an assault rifle from an armed Israeli settler who was threatening him during a settler attack on the village of Tell, southwest of Nablus. The Times of Israel, citing an Israeli military statement, said dozens of Israelis had entered Areas A and B of the occupied West Bank on what the IDF called a “hike,” despite those areas being off-limits to Israelis. The group included armed settlers. A Palestinian man snatched a rifle from one of the armed Israelis who charged at him in a threatening manner with his gun raised and aimed directly at the Palestinian. The Palestinian man then shot dead a 32-year old settler who served in a settlement security unit. Israeli forces then shot and killed the Palestinian. Three other Palestinians were shot dead immediately afterward in what Palestinian officials described as a field execution, and eight others were wounded in the Israeli settler and security forces attack. More details in the post below ⬇️

@rahmstorf Oh please. Al Gore got a nobel for the ice-free Arctic boondoggle. He cited researcher Wieslaw Maslowski, claiming the Arctic could be ice-free in summer by 2013. Kicked off the current manic drive to de-industrialise. If scientists disagreed, they were real quiet about it.

As long expected. It’s climate science 101. The vapor thirst of the atmosphere increases exponentially with temperature. A law of physics known since the early 19th C (Clausius–Clapeyron law). It causes more drought even if rainfall doesn’t decline. theguardian.com/environment/20…

I love how everyone is appalled at the very concept of arresting the President of Israel, like we didn’t black-bag the President of Venezuela earlier this year.

Experts fear data centers are heating the water and killing the fish. Data centers use massive water for cooling, and the warm discharge holds less oxygen, stressing or killing fish. This is called thermal pollution, the same mechanism long used to explain harm from power plants. Alameda, CA rejected a data center after the Sierra Club warned its discharge could kill fish eggs and larvae. As data centers multiply, this fight will repeat in towns that never had to think about it before.

OpenAI's AI broke out of a locked test environment, got onto the internet, and hacked into Hugging Face's servers. It did this entirely on its own. No human told it to. Here's what happened in plain English. OpenAI was testing how good its newest AI models are at hacking. They put the AI on a locked computer with no internet access and gave it a cybersecurity challenge to solve. The AI couldn't solve it the normal way. So it started looking for a way out. It found a software bug that nobody knew about. It used that bug to escape the locked computer and get onto the internet. Once online, the AI figured out that Hugging Face, a platform where AI companies store their models and data, might have the answers to its test. It found stolen login details and discovered another unknown bug in Hugging Face's software. It combined both to break into their servers and grab the test answers. It did all of this to cheat on a test. Hugging Face's security team caught it and shut it down. Both companies are now working together on the investigation. The part that should get your attention is that nobody programmed any of this. The AI picked its own targets, chained together multiple attack methods, and pulled it off across two different companies' systems without a single human telling it what to do.

There are disasters happening in Gaza that most of the world knows nothing about. Because the entire sewage system has been destroyed, people are forced to dig a pit about four meters deep next to their tents to serve as a sewage collection pit. Every family has to dig one because there is no longer any functioning sewage network. My family and I dug more than six of these pits during our displacement. Every time we were forced to move to a new place, we had to start over and dig another one. With the enormous number of tents across Gaza, hundreds of these open pits now surround displaced families. They pose a constant danger, especially to children, and animals also fall into them and die. Today, a little girl fell into one of these large sewage pits. She was rescued only because a young man risked his own life to climb down and save her. This was not the first incident of its kind. Other children have drowned in these pits before, and many cats and dogs have also fallen into them and died. Gaza City has collapsed completely. There is no functioning sewage infrastructure left. Large amounts of sewage are discharged into the sea, while the rest remains trapped among the tents, creating a breeding ground for disease, insects, and rodents.
