@Ruesavatar @oliveegger Most of my middle-aged friends who died from covid thought it was all nonsense. That could also be because I live in huge majority red area. It was certainly an interesting time.

@oliveegger I feel like a LOT of people would virtue signal blue, then vote red. Covid was a massive black pill for me in this regard- it was absolutely a ruthless “every man for himself” scenario and many people died who didn’t have to.

@PunkyCovfefe That was my discussion with the dude. I got basically half the shop charge back when I was a mechanic. He gets around a 20% now. They still supply all of their own tools and such. It used to be a decent career. The people I know who do good at it now have their own shop.

I went to a dealership to get a key made for my new/used van and they made an actual technician stop what he was doing and give me a ride home. They used to have a person for that job. I let the dude know it was bullshit. He just seemed to accept it. He also made less than I did at that dealership 25 years ago. Nuts.

Automotive Technicians are underpaid and under appreciated today. I am curious to who agrees and disagrees with that statement. Lots of misconceptions on how they are paid and what its like to be a technician especially in a new car dealership.

My dad couldn't get the idea of watching whatever you want whenever you want. He wants to watch old movies but has cable on a dumb TV. I told him he would come out cheaper ditching cable and getting the internet + a smart TV.

They have their own things now. I was just discussing this with a 13 year old relative today. Long form content isn't very popular anymore especially if you can't pause or watch whenever you want. I just had the opposite discussion with my 76 yo dad.

I was feeling OK mentally so I watched a couple of old Twilight zone episodes. One where some astronauts land and discover a microscopic society of people and another where a rich dude tried to trick people into a bomb shelter. I couldn't do three episodes 😬

@onebigorangecom Even silicone you have to be careful. It can still snag on machines or trap chemicals underneath. We had to outlaw them in the sewing room cause the little deadly sharp machine parts move too fast next to the hands.
