@DJSnM I genuinely think they could target precisely enough to land one on each side of the deck

Also, with only one drone ship SpaceX loses the ability to recover Falcon heavy side cores on the ocean. It’s RTLS or sacrificing the whole stack to the dark gods of delta V.

@peterrhague I wonder what it would sound like if they did a longer pulse bc most of that just sounds like the valve, same with the sounds we’ve heard of dragon

@r3a9an_k_ @TrackingTheSB yeah since they’re staying in earth orbiting for a day the prop would boil off so they couldn’t use ICPS anyway hence them repurposing it for this instead it does most and the rest is done with the ESM but that also prevents them from entering lunar orbit due to less fuel left

@EuroMotoTrack @SenMarkKelly Starship is great and will be able to do a lot but it’s far from being ready especially to launch crew Yes SLS probably never should have happened but it’s here for now and is clearly the best option, commercial rockets will take over with time

This engine is what is going to help bring our astronauts to the Moon later today. Decades of American innovation built this. Today we get to watch it work.

@SenMarkKelly If that’s the engine they’re using today they better strap it onto the rocket!🤪 You’re searching for relevance & we really don’t care! Yes it took decades & nearly $100B with each launch costing $4B! Starship has been privately funded & costs $10M to launch!🚀 Do the math!🤡

@itsfine2022 @NASASpaceflight also even if something went wrong maybe they’re still confident enough to just put the rest of the engines on and fix the problem at the same time and just start ramping up after all that work is complete

@NASASpaceflight Everyone assumes something went wrong. What if the the static fire was more for stage 0 and not the booster. B19 needs the rest of its raptors it will be back for a full static fire

@SpaceGeekSheri just goofing around because they are known for not being able to be shut down. it’s probably impractical to create this tbh. i’d be curious to see what it would take though!

I still remember sitting there waiting to see if Flight 1 would lift off after it lit it's engines, it felt like it just sat there for an eternity before finally beginning to rise.

@RyanHansenSpace @JohnFubka @r3a9an_k_ @CrosaJM @CSI_Starbase what I don’t understand is why they’re not changing the engine to address the ice in the first place bc whether it’s being filtered successfully or not they can’t rapidly relaunch with tens of tons of water in the bottom of the tank so something has to be done eventually

Those are the same inlet filters used on previous boosters. This includes the boosters that had filter blockage during boost back, causing booster RUD. They added a larger ice strainer structure on later boosters above these filters. @CSI_Starbase and I made a video about this a while back, and B13 remains basically validated that concept.

@spaceflight1905 they don't do BB with the main LOX tank now, no ice to suck in

Light speculation: By the amount of COPVs B18 had it feels like instead of removing the RQDs and putting it through the 2 QDs they just moved it to the Booster instead.. while this adds mass to the booster it also means its possible to restart an outer 20 engine during flight now

What date/year would you consider the "start" of the Starship program? How much has it cost? Would you still call it "fast"? Not trolling, genuinely trying to get a feel for what people think. These things are all ambiguous and makes comparisons to other programs challenging
