on this general topic; in the limit, tech will get nationalised whatever lab wins (openai, anthropic, WHOEVER) will end up nationalised, or at least heavily subsidised. 2 things push this way: - national security (duh?) - the bigger one: open source will EAT consumer demand from below Open weight models will be good enough for the VAST majority of consumer of use cases, and compute cost to run them will tend to -> 0. My bet on who eats this local compute demand is Nvidia or Apple. As for frontier stuff (private weights & costly inference), the only people who will need this are enterprises & government For this reason, I don’t see a universe where labs do not either become nationalised or subsidised by the government
