You’re reducing this whole thing to herd behavior?
Do you ignore that many, especially in Utah, lose faith but still live in the same neighborhood? Still love the same believing family? Still care about the same people? But no longer share the same religious ideas and are now out of place?
There isn’t some ready-made ex-Mormon “ward” that replaces sacrament meetings, callings, youth programs for your kids, rituals, built-in Sunday gatherings and belonging.
You don’t leave and get handed a new tribe with casseroles and cookies.
When someone avoids the substance, flattens all these complex reasons into motive attacks about wanting to join another tribe, and ignores the real pain people have from leaving the belief system of family and friends and relationships, all they are doing is reassuring their own identity and belief system.
Most people deconstruct and feel lost, isolated, social ambiguity, a strain on family, loss of identity, certainty and purpose.
This is some wild and ignorant defensive rhetoric.

This is an ice core from West Antarctica. The black ring on it is a layer of volcanic ash deposited some 21,000 years ago. This and other ice cores can help us to learn about the past, including Phoenician and Roman history🧵
