The onus is on the party committing genocide to stop committing genocide. The onus is not on the victims of the genocide to sign agreements in the hope of saving themselves from the genocide. This is obvious to anyone who isn't a psychopath.

Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.

As someone forever in awe of what our minds do with language—and what language, in turn, does with our minds—of how thought emerges through linguistic intentionality, I find it increasingly difficult to make sense of how easily we have chosen to outsource this part of ourselves.

I’ve said it before, but the deluge of AI generated bullshit is going to make it more important than ever to start teaching things like cover letter writing/résumé writing. Amidst all of the AI generated swill, knowing how to write/sound human will become increasingly valuable.
Rohan Paul@rohanpaul_ai

Recruiters face 45% surge in AI-crafted résumés. hitting 11,000 submissions per minute. Many résumés now mirror job-description keywords from simple ChatGPT prompts. AI agents auto-apply on behalf of candidates, forcing firms into an AI vs AI screening arms race.

Something very disturbing how the US names its weapons after Native Americans it genocided, like trophies, and then uses them to further colonize and subjugate other peoples around the world. Tomahawk cruise missile Apache helicopter Black Hawk Chinook Lakota, etc

Wars and invasions do not liberate women. Ask the women of Afghanistan today. Every time an imperial power claims to “liberate” women from “their” men, those men will seek to wrestle back control over “their women” when the invaders are gone.

Let’s be very clear: do not allow Israel and the U.S. to co-opt women’s rights and the feminist Woman, Life, Freedom Revolution to justify their criminal war on Iran. My essay: feministgiant.com/p/essay-netany…

Car Brain is when someone who respects others in nearly every context suddenly becomes selfish, reckless, or even hostile just because a car is part of the interaction. Car Brain is a kind of cultural psychosis. fastcompany.com/91330344/car-b… @FastCompany

reading woolf and lispector reminds me how literature lets us cradle an emotion without demanding neat resolution. to feel something in full without the pressure of definition, of outcome, of the neat tied-bow so beloved by tidy narratives. it's a peculiar kind of solace.

If chatbots become more prominent and most people are getting information from machines owned by corporations, they will be able to revise and erase history at will. The library will be our only defense against a merger of the state and the tech industry that rewrites the past.

I can't stress enough how important it is for you to read to your kids. It's the single most effective thing you can do to ensure your child's success in school. They need to be exposed to books from a young age. And you can make it fun.

This is why I say curiosity and a love of learning are dying. Many people would rather be spoon-fed misinformation by a machine than explore new avenues of knowledge. It's not that tech is making us dumber - it's worse. It's killing the desire to even want to learn.

In Fahrenheit 451, the abolition of reading began with tech companies simplifying books into summaries that you could read in five minutes. Because people no longer engaged with the texts, they forgot how to think. Then came the book-burnings.
