@evia_sander @whpub You're going to have to get a grip. Even if accepted your framing of these events, it's absolutely possible to recognize there can be bad actors in an institution without abandoning the institution. This is a silly line of argumentation. Sola Scriptura is still a pious fraud.

@ouroborosKXM @whpub To them. If you really would hate evil, you would hate what evil popes and false priests have done throughout history, especially in the Middle Ages. The question is simply how far you would follow them. 1/

The problem with criticizing Protestants for not being able to find the “table of contents of the Bible” in the Scriptures is that the Roman Catholic solution would have to be finding the “table of contents of the Bible” *in the infallible teachings of the Magisterium.* And you can’t find that “table of contents” in the Magisterium until Trent. The Councils of Rome, Hippo and Carthage were provincial councils rather than ecumenical, and therefore were “not competent to deal directly with matters of faith” (Catholic Encyclopedia, Provincial Council). So their opinions were just opinions. Other earlier provincial councils had other opinions. But Rome made no formal ruling on the question. The Council of Florence was ecumenical and “taught the inspiration of all the Scriptures, but did not formally pass on their canonicity” (Catholic Encyclopedia, canon of the OT). And because “inspired” ≠ “canonical,” many who subscribed to Florence continued to deny the canonicity of the Apocrypha. But Rome still made no formal ruling on the question. So the first “infallible” ruling on the canon of scripture was not until after Luther identified a 66 book canon. Sure Luther was just one more fallible opinion, but even high ranking Roman Catholic clergy and ancient provincial councils had been denying the canon of the apocrypha centuries before Luther. The Catholic angst displayed below is just latent embarrassment at waiting 1500 years to “settle” a controversy of such magnitude. Hey, no rush, y’all. Take your time! 🤣

LOL! Someone obviously doesn’t even know what “gaslighting” IS. Some Councils. Note the dates: • Rome, 382: 73 books • Hippo, 393: 73 books • Carthage, 397: 73 books • 2nd Carthage, 419: 73 books • Florence, 1442: 73 books → MARTIN LUTHER, 1517 • Trent, 1546: 73 books

@ouroborosKXM @whpub Neither the Old or New Testament teaches that you should pray to Mary. It teaches clearly against it in other passages. And in the passages you choose to read it into, the person who does so is even executed afterwards. 1/

@ouroborosKXM @whpub Of course they do - all the time. They did in the past and they still do so now. They may not have been responsible for burning biblical Christians alive in your country, but they have in mine. They may not have oppressed your ancestors via unbiblical lies, but they did mine.

@ouroborosKXM @whpub The question is if the RCC teachers contradicts the word of God, whose word do you follow the word of Rome or the word of God? Let me remind you that the apostles taught that even if they themselves came back later and taught another gospel, they should be accursed: 1/

@evia_sander @whpub Catholics read scripture fully engaging all senses of scripture. Literal, moral, allegorical, and anagogical. As such they typically have a better grasp of scripture, the kingdom of heaven, and christian theology than people who read only in the literal sense.

@ouroborosKXM @whpub But I'm pretty sure many Roman Catholics don't read the word of God in context. Adonijah does indeed ask Bathsheba to speak to King Solomon on his behalf. But if one reads a little further, one sees that Adonijah is later executed. 3/

@evia_sander @whpub ...and is an expression of the new covenant communion of saints, cloud of witnesses, the saints that walked into the holy city after the crucifixion, and martyrs asking to be avenged. All of which indicate post mortem knowledge of events on earth.

@evia_sander @whpub 1 kings establishes the position of the queen mother in the davidic kingdom as does jer 13:18. The particulars of the story don't support or refute intercessory prayer which has historical continuity with the Jewish practice of requesting intercessory prayer from the tzaddikim.

@evia_sander @whpub None of this addresses the reality sola scriptura is a pious fraud. Everybody knows there was a visible church hierarchy that provided correction and encouragement to the faithful. They appointed bishops as successors who continued the living witness of the church.

@ouroborosKXM @whpub Yes, the Hebrew canon, not the Trent canon. We don't disagree on the NT canon. And many Roman Catholics actually often argue for their false theology from the OT, from scripture we all accept. 1/

@PattyWantsTruth @Benko9John @DavidFischer Our understanding of the intercession of the saints is rooted in the Jewish custom of praying for the dead and asking for the intercession of the righteous (tzaddikim). The cloud of witnesses, those who rose from the dead after the crucifixion, the martyrs waiting to be avenged.

-Mary was Jesus’ Earth Mother. -Jesus places no higher emphasis on her than anyone else. -Mary is dead and God commands us not to speak to the dead. (Ecclesiastes 9:5-6) -God considers consulting the dead as a pagan practice and an "abomination" or "detestable".

@HarrisonGarlic1 Maybe. But only because James, the brother of Jesus, wasn't there. Acts 15:19 James deciding, AFTER Peter and Paul present their cases: “It is MY JUDGEMENT, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God." James led + decided. Not Peter.

Every Easter season, you see the same jokes. People laugh and post memes about John recording he beat Peter to the tomb. Yet, many people couple their jokes with a comment wondering why else would John even record this detail? 📚Well, what if it wasn’t about humor but about John’s respect for Peter’s biblical role? In this piece, explore the New Testament’s subtle but consistent portrait of Peter as the leader among the Twelve. Discover why John’s “humble-brag” might be the ultimate nod to apostolic primacy. theascent.io/p/why-john-rec…

This is just a completely unnecessary error caused by flattening the language. Paul is drawing a distinction between the enduring moral character of the law, the spirit of the law or natural law, and the obsolete letter of the mosaic law.

@ouroborosKXM @GLConcreteCo @realmikolson Out of context again as usual. In romans 2 paul is saying if you're presistence in doing good works he will give eternal life. This is paul saying for those who want to judged by the works, he continued in verse 12 all who sin apart from the law perish apart from the law
