Feels a bit wild, but I'm really freaking excited and grateful to be on Deep Dive with Ridd. These new tools have changed how I create and have helped me in unbelievable ways. I get so fired up taking about AI and design. Ridd is also an incredible interviewer!
Ridd 🤿@ridd_design

what does it look like to be an AI-native designer today? @krispuckett is a great example imo so today's episode is all about his journey building his ideas and pushing the limits of how this tech can shape every aspect of his life it's a good one 👇 youtube.com/watch?v=nPyxVM…

@jackfriks Have had the OG Studio Display for years and it’s never really bothered me. For day to day work stuff I think the PPI and general display quality has made so much more of a difference, it’s great

@ow @brian_lovin The main letdowns of the xdr imo are the massive bezels and the stand not supporting rotation. A lot of people don’t like the size but I don’t mind it.

Has anyone picked this up? Seems like a great deal for slightly more than the Studio Display and a lot less than the XDR (which I don’t need, but of course the heart yearns)

@ow Damn, I have been wanting to build just the manual part of this for the home! Never thought of the receipt or photo angle!

it’s actually nuts how good AI has gotten at writing code i always lose receipts, so I wanted a tool to track them + manuals, especially for large purchases started playing… 36 hours later I have a solid backend and a decent native iOS app(!!) already. it extracts info from receipts with an LLM, grabs the PDF of the manual + a nice product photo from the internet and takes care of it all. ✨ just crazy how fast you can just make things real end-to-end now.

@ow Very curious. As an aside - Why do you keep reciepts? Is this for biz expense purposes ?

@ow good stuff!! another use case: cataloging big ticket items (as part of your home insurance) ... handy to have if you ever need to make a claim

@henrycooke So it’s pretty much what you expect - using the API. I use Sonnet 4.6 and the pricing has been surprisingly affordable—put in $5 and still haven’t blown through it! Each image seems to be a cent or two. You can put a limit on the spend too for peace of mind.

@ow what do you use as the LLM to extract the data? i have built a basic little assistant app for myself using claude code but as it does not actually call on an LLM itself the natural language processing is a bit spotty. have you found something good to use that is relatively cheap

@anthonybs @_buggles The core app (Laravel/React) was built with Claude Code initially, though I switched to Codex partway through for higher complexity tasks. The iOS app I started with Super App then switched back to Claude Code once I had the basics in place. Seemed to work really nicely!

@JuanVisbalCo I couldn't find any apps that had 1) the same features 2) looked nice enough for my standards so made something that works for my flow. before this the choice was use what was there or don't 🤷‍♀️

@ow 36 hours for "annoying personal problem -> solid backend + native app" is exactly why people keep underestimating what changed.

@ow Devs in ex-team needed an external lib for this, licensing cost several thousands of dollars a year - and then the result was still pretty horrible
