@owengreeley @devahaz Yes, obviously. He's a grown man who assaulted an old guy for no fucking reason. He's utterly incapable of controlling his violent impulses & should be put in prison for the protection of normal, functioning members of society.

I believe this guy should have been found guilty of murder. The jury disagreed. His defense was he was having a bad day and got angry because he thought this guy was looking at him. If you believe his own words to be true, how can that person be allowed unsupervised in society?

@MelvinOSquire @devahaz murder and manslaughter are different crimes for a reason. if you think they should be punished the same way so be it, but that has to be applied universally, not based on your gut feelings about how dangerous a person is

@owengreeley @devahaz Yes? He was probably a lower recidivism risk than your average killer, but either way he should go too. What’s your point?

@owengreeley @devahaz He - without provocation - assaulted an old man so severely they fucking died. In any civilized society this would be a capital offense.

@devahaz perhaps, although that’s for a jury to decide. your original tweet seems to suggest he should imprisoned indefinitely, that’s what i take issue with

@owengreeley I think he should have been convicted of murder 2 or at least voluntary manslaughter

@devahaz the guy committed manslaughter and was sentenced accordingly. there’s no provision where we say, oh he’s just too dangerous to be allowed the same normal rights we all get so we should punish him more harshly

@owengreeley No, we should have laws that reflect what’s best for society and apply them uniformly

@AnechoicMedia_ complete rewrite of history to blame the floyd protests when covid skepticism and resistance to covid restrictions had been ongoing for months.

The public perceives "the establishment" as a broad edifice that includes media figures as well as non-govt professional orgs that were hyper politicized circa 2020. Meanwhile the defender of the liberal establishment narrowly defines "the experts" as a few top government bodies making highly legible official acts, which are usually less facially absurd and launder motivations through proper channels. The problem is you can't escape your official acts being associated (not incorrectly) with your coalition of partisans. Members of the profession signing a highly visible public letter saying racism is a public health crisis that overrides covid safety are the more correct barometer for how trustworthy the establishment is than anything that goes through the filter of official government policy.

A question for everyone: survey data suggests that by the end of the Covid-19 emergency trust in public health institutions had decreased significantly. If you are among the people who reacted that way, why specifically? I'm hoping for long, diverse, individualized answers.

@MariGO2thepolls ah, but if you allow that, a poor person might choose to sell their kidney and become less poor, which would be bad for some reason

Maybe the AI bubble is popping, maybe not, but I’d like to remind leftists that lots of technologies that stuck around (including to the detriment of workers and society more broadly) start with overinvestment bubbles that pop, but they don’t go away. We need to legislate.

ironically this tweet is a good example of *why* people don’t want to engage with political themes. you just get a thousand people calling you an idiot if you don’t view things exactly the way they do

I love Mint, but what she does is how i view every American One of the most important tapes that talks about Kaz, ideals and why he does what he does, She reads the title being about Che Guevara and says "why should we care?" That alone explained to me everything about americans

Bro you have permanent underclass physiognomy In a different lifetime you would be crouched on a field farming millet and rice but the Winds of Fate brought you instead to modern America to see if your bloodline could break its curse Instead, you jump right into peasantry antics once more, angering the Heavens with your impunity

I’m curious about the woman-centric framing of all this social con messaging, is it the case that lots of twentysomething women are receiving marriage proposals from eligible men and turning them down? What’s the leverage point here?

TIL that the person who coined AGI as an acronym is out here posting that we, in fact, have it as it was originally envisioned (with receipts pointing to a fairly falsifiable definition for the term)
Mark Gubrud 🇺🇸@mgubrud

@MaMoMVPY Well, Lars, I INVENTED THE TERM and I say we have achieved AGI. Current models perform at roughly high-human level in command of language and general knowledge, but work thousands of times faster than us. Still some major deficiencies remain but they're falling fast.
