I believe our government is so bloated it doesn’t know its ass from its elbow.
And I fear we’ll never see what small government actually looks like.
One Problem are government benefits being very lucrative to some (depending on who you ask).
Another is how giant our intelligence community is.
In 2004, one agency out of the 18, had roughly 4-5k employees. By 2012, it increased to 20k (worldwide).
Have we done anything since to gut any of these organizations?
No. Why? Because taking money out of their pockets is unacceptable to bureaucrats operating within these institutions that don’t give a shit who the President is.
They all have multi billion dollar budgets and operate on their own w hardly any oversight.
Has the Pentagon passed an audit recently?
No! They have NEVER PASSED A FULL FINANCIAL AUDIT!
Empires collapse for many reasons but more often than not it happens from within.

The more time I spend in Latin America, the more I’m convinced this is the likely path for the US.
Small, wealthy class of elites and then everyone else, crumbling infrastructure and economy dominated by an openly grifting state.
Not quite socialism, not quite capitalism, an ugly middle ground where the social contract has completely eroded.
