Momentum is building behind ending national vetoes on foreign and defence decisions in the EU. There are big upsides and downsides, and both need considered discussion and debate. Abolishing the vetoes would give the bloc a real chance of being a geopolitical actor proportionate to its economic heft, but there are huge implications for national sovereignty too.

Amazingly, I still have affection for Phil. But he never won a money title, never got to number one, never won around the world and famously couldn’t win a U.S. Open. Rory > Phil and it’s not close.
Adam Tauszky@Leap_year_man

@AlanShipnuck He may get there but he hasn’t surpassed Phil yet, you just hate Phil lol

@danobrien20 You can throw in RTE and semi state sector with NGO civil service brigade. The media sector which relies heavily on government revenue very much aligned with government. No Tuckers in Eire. Anyone who would have a conservative outlook in spending and policy is branded far right.

Is Irish society more polarised than usually believed? This is just a theory: many of those in the business economy feel alienated and unrepresented by government. They endure some of the highest marginal rates of personal tax in the world, which were never restored to pre-2008, while these taxes are spent by government in ways they feel they don't benefit and are sometimes wasted. At the other pole are the hundreds of thousands in the public sector and NGOs who have a woke or woke-adjacent world view. They are happy with bigger government, long ago restored pay, high taxes and a strong socially liberal agenda in policy. The are more insulated from the vagaries of the market economy. These two groups have little in common and don't interact much. Just a theory.
Dan O'Brien@danobrien20

Lived in London during the 2000 fuel protests. There was a sense of real societal crisis. We’re moving into that territory in Ireland now. Blockading refineries threatens the lifeblood of a society, threatening even basic human health in multiple ways. It is disproportionate and needs to stop.

2-15 is some shooting in a half of hurling; and 2-9 of that from play. Black card penalty decision was a joke, but Dublin’s second goal was a really poor one for Clare to concede. Meehan, SOD & Rodgers on fire, Taylor electric as always

@JoannaDonnellyL Jeez, I am surprised at grief you got for asking for a professional driver to plan route to avoid being danger to pedestrians. I have seen trucks trying to squeeze under a bridge to get into Ennis from Tulla road and getting stuck. No forward planning to use north/south approach

I know I’m the one that’s going to get shit for posting this video, but please remember it’s always illegal to drive on a footpath. If your truck doesn’t fit on a road, find an alternative route. In this case it’s a <5min detour. #drivingoffences #baddriving #safeinfrastucture

@BishopBarron Our Irish head of state had one of the lowest electoral votes ever. Would not have got elected if our main political party had not selected dishonest candidate who got found out in election campaign. 13% of the electorate spoilt their vote as there was no conservative candidate.

💯 would Aston Villa, Brighton or Everton get the penalty decision United got today and a mansent off. There are certain teams favoured for the premier league brand and United back in third is the story they want to sell fairness be dammed.
Green Scouser@Green_Scouser

Does any neutral fan enjoy watching games of football anymore when their team isn't involved? I think the PL is at its lowest ever level in terms of entertainment. The nonsense during det pieces, poor standard of refereeing and too much play acting has made it unwatchable

@billboland41 @GaaClare @zimmerbiomet Was at the match last night and we'll worth the journey from Clare and the hosing we got. Kildare made us look pedestrian at times, played a very impressive brand of hurling. A bit more experience and accuracy towards the end got us through. Cill Dara abu.
