@ordinarytings this person grew up in a major city and never spent time in the burbs or small towns, because this stuff has been going on since I was a kid in the 90s. we went on a choir trip from NJ to Canada and spent a night in nowhere NY state and those kids were weirder than kids in NYC.

This article would be 1000% better if the writer actually spoke to and quoted the people it’s about. As it stands; it’s just a sneering overwritten bit of faux anthropology. A shame - because the Discord-ification of semi-rural America is sincerely interesting. And definitely something I’ve observed since I’ve been darting around rural Texas.
