The Chiefs and people of Tarkwa, Huni have appealed to President Mahama to renew the mining agreement with Goldfields which expires in 2027.
Commercial underground mining started in Tarkwa by the British Colonial Government in 1874.
Goldfields have owned the mines since 1993.
The chiefs argue that, Goldfields operations has contributed significantly towards the development of their communities.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Tarkwa in its glory.

No one escapes from here because they’re in danger and everyone is ok, despite the challenges.
It's not the buildings that make a country a dream place, but people who live there.

I extend my sincerest appreciation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, H.E. Petr Macinka for hosting me warmly in Prague.
We held fruitful discussions focusing on our bilateral cooperation including the revived €48million bridge projects in Ghana, expanding VAMED hospitals and expediting ongoing talks for buses to transform public transportation.
Our two countries are also initiating discussions on a potential visa waiver agreement.
I thanked the Czech government and the organizers of GLOBSEC for inviting me to share my reflections on the importance of Africa in the evolving global order and the demands of the Ghana-led coalition for reparatory justice.

It has been most impactful reviving our PJCC with Jamaica after a long 21-year hiatus.
I commend my counterpart, the outstanding Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith for leading such an impressive delegation of Ministers and high level officials to Accra.
I convey heartfelt congratulations to Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson Smith for serving as Foreign Minister for 10 years. She has been exceptionally successful in her role as Jamaica’s first female Foreign Minister and currently as the longest serving female Foreign Minister in the world.
May I add that I am truly humbled and touched by her very kind remarks and positive appraisal about me during her historic visit to Ghana.
A key outcome of the PJCC was the agreement we signed which will ensure some 400 Ghanaian nurses are sent to Jamaica to boost health delivery in the friendly nation.
We also signed additional agreements for defence cooperation and tourism.
Ghana and Jamaica have also agreed to complete ongoing negotiations to send Ghanaian teachers to Jamaica by August this year.
We must all be proud to see how Ghanaian professionals are in high demand all over the world.
I also took the opportunity to celebrate Jamaica for their unwavering support during the landmark adoption of the Ghana-led UN resolution declaring the transatlantic enslavement as the gravest crime against humanity.
Jamaica renewed their appreciation of Ghana’s humanitarian support when we sent our gallant soldiers and donated relief items in the aftermath of Hurricane Melisa.
It is worthy of note that the Jamaican Prime Minister, The Rt. Hon. Andrew Holness has extended a special invitation to President John Mahama to serve as guest of honour at this year’s Jamaican National Day celebrations.
I am deeply elated and inspired by the renewed enthusiasm in our ancestral Ghana-Jamaica relations.
Long live our Ghana 🇬🇭 Jamaica 🇯🇲 inseparable partnership.

Last year, the US government said some African governments refused to participate in its forced deportation programme for illegal migrants. Ghana volunteered to collect them and help dump them.
In 2022, the British government decided it no longer wished to host asylum seekers on its own territory and needed somewhere to offload them. Rwanda raised its hand.
In 2016, the United States decided it could not keep certain Guantanamo Bay prisoners in its own facilities. Ghana openly agreed to receive them on African soil.
And now the United States has decided it cannot repatriate its own Ebola patients to its own vastly superior medical infrastructure. Kenya has offered to build them a treatment centre.
Every time a Western government identifies something it considers too dangerous, too embarrassing, too legally complicated or too politically inconvenient to keep on its own territory, there is always an African government somewhere ready to collect it.
Deportees, asylum seekers, terror suspects, infectious disease patients. The willingness of certain African leaders to position their countries as the world’s surrogate waste management service, in exchange for whatever diplomatic or financial token has no visible floor.
There will always be morally bankrupt opportunists in government who will not look at the safety of their people, the dignity of their flag or the solidarity owed to the oppressed, and will instead compete to be the most useful to the powerful.

I’ve tried to look at this South Africa issue objectively and carefully and I’ve realized that many South Africans do not actually know who or what they are angry at. They seem frustrated and traumatized by their own country and government and are simply looking for something to vent on.
The entire Black South African community needs therapy.

@HotTopics_Lisa We are not dreaming it we are living it .Come home Ghanaians you are warriors, real hustlers.
You fought for your own Independence .So would make it right here where you are loved and cherished.

Wow! the first senseless Namibian I’m coming across.
I’ve interacted with so many of them, especially during this xenophobic attacks in South Africa and none of them share this same view. But then again, I see you have a South African mother. This just confirms my theory that the retardation of South Africans is hereditary. I’ll pray for you
