A 37-year-old woman from Karandi, Ashwini Sandeep Napte, has been left permanently paralyzed after a serious accident at Jay Malhar Agro Tourism Centre in Morachi Chincholi, Shirur taluka. Ashwini was visiting the water park with her family when she came down a water slide and hit the ground because the water level at the end of the slide was allegedly too low. She lost consciousness on the spot.
Doctors later found that four of her spinal vertebrae had fractured, leaving the lower half of her body permanently immobile. Her family has alleged that the tourism centre had no proper safety arrangements, no ambulance and no emergency medical help available. They had to arrange a private ambulance themselves to take her to hospital.
Following a complaint by Kiran Napte, Shirur Police have registered a case against the owner and manager of the tourism centre for negligence. The incident has raised serious questions about safety standards at water parks and agro tourism centres around Pune.
