@SimonCotter62 Income from wealth should be taxed at the same rate as income from labour. Negative gearing should be only available on productive investment that avoids government expenditure (major roads, new housing, etc). GST is severely regressive to the poor.

The best thing the govt could do is raise the GST to 15%. Tax spending not saving and wealth creation. Simple.

@greenytrades Take away for me from the local fish and chip burger joint, including two burgers with the lot, a minimum chips to share and a 1.25L pepsi max is under $40 for call the store and pick it up. No fancy apps, no migrant delivery worker. You are crazy.

Australia inflation is fcked man. I just went to order takeaway from a store only 15 minutes away. The order was two burgers, fries and a drink... it came to a total of $91 for delivery. Our country is cooked.

@DaveSharma Why should income derived from investment be taxed at a different rate to income derived from personal labour? Just become an unproductive society, cross investing, selling to other investors, buying from other investors. Not producing anything to make a productive society.

@MickamiousG Superfunds already do build to rent commercial buildings. Doing build to rent just like the defense department does make a bit of sense.

Grok confirms that the tax changes to CGT and Negative Gearing are designed to push you to look at dumping your money into Super as the clear winner to reduce your tax. Superfunds are used by Super Fund corporations to fund “Build-To-Rent” housing. Are you getting it yet?

@disco___cat Negative Gearing - use private money to fund things that the government would otherwise have to fund, and hence a tax break. Toll (roads), housing, nbn, etc assessable and transferrable objects to other investors that (should) bring public good that increase capacity in society

If the theory underpinning the change to CGT and NG is that we want fewer property investors (a good thing) then by definition the CGT changes to other asset classes like shares means we want fewer people to invest in them? That’s not a good thing.

@facepalm8355 @7NewsBrisbane They put spanning reo between the printed uprights (eg inside wall and external wall, or both sides of an internal wall). Also the concrete is likely fibreglass reinforced in the mix also for support. This is not some primary school project.

@MickamiousG Negative gearing should only be available on new assets to foster development and investment to grow a market. Negative gearing on an existing family home that is 20years old does nothing to build the economy and thus isn’t worthy of attracting tax benefits.

Honestly, If the Government remove Negative Gearing, what other methods do Australians have other than throwing money into their Super to try reduce their taxes further?? What I’m getting at here is that the options in trying to reduce your tax are now becoming more and more limited than any other time in history. So if Negative Gearing is removed as an option, then what have you got left? Of course the Government will now start promoting for you to throw your money into your Super Funds as an option because then this helps to generate more investment money for infrastructure like renewable projects, housing etc. Yes negative gearing has no doubt been abused, I have absolutely no doubt, but it’s not the sole problem here. Australians continually get taxed harder year on year and it seems even more options are being taken away from them to try reduce their own taxes

Jess Wilson reckons the 'back office' doesn't support the frontline. She's never had a real job, and it shows. Who pays the nurses? Rosters the police? Runs the hospital IT? Processes the teacher payroll? Cut them and the frontline stops.

@cardwell_graham @MaximumAttackDT That MK3 RS is an absolute weapon of a vehicle. Had one of those, absolutely a hoot to drive. So quick, so much grip, point and shoot steering that was amazing when pushing hard. It deserved so much more than what it got.

A reminder it wasn't that long ago Ford would sell you a 200bhp, 1,200kg hot hatch with a manual gearbox, limited-slip differential and adjustable dampers. Now all they want to sell you is a bunch of dreary, unimaginative, distinctly average crossovers. How the mighty have fallen

Konrad is a clueless, ignorant Communist grifter who hasn’t got the faintest idea what he’s talking about. He’s peddling complete nonsense and outright lies. You cannot import gas through an export terminal — it’s physically impossible. An export terminal exists to chill the gas to -162°C, turning it into liquid LNG and shrinking its volume to just 1/600th so it can be shipped economically over vast distances. An import terminal — a regasification plant — does the exact opposite. It uses specialized vaporizers and heat exchangers to boil the LNG back into gas, warming it to ambient temperature before pumping it into local pipelines. These are completely different facilities with entirely opposite functions. Claiming you can import gas through an export terminal is as brain-dead as saying you can freeze water on your stove just as easily as in your fridge.
