BREAKING: Memphis lands a commitment from Briacrest HS 2026 4⭐️ wing/F Fred Smith Jr.
Fred joins fellow 4⭐️ Cello Jackson as the two Memphis commits in the 2026 class.
Smith Jr. is an interesting scout. Has good handle + ball skills at his size, but lacks lateral quickness and outside shooting. Is limited size-wise in the paint but is a physical scorer at the rim. It’ll be interesting to see what position he plays and how his game translates in college.
I see him more as an undersized 4 in college.

2026 4⭐️ 6’6” Fred Smith Jr. (@FredSmithJR) had a good showing this AAU season playing for @P7Elite. The Memphis native is scheduled to visit Memphis on September 19th when Memphis FB takes on Arkansas at home. Smith Jr. excelled at the rim this season (1.38 PPS + 69.1% FG), while also showing off an improved handle + confidence in his shot creation.

Memphis HC Penny Hardaway has had a lot of success the last few seasons with HM+ players looking for a higher usage role (ex. Dainja, Hunter, etc.).
And, just a lot of success overall at the PG spot: Kendric Davis, PJ Haggerty, Tyrese Hunter, etc.
Seems like a great fit on paper between Memphis and Wagner, given Penny’s developmental success since he’s been at Memphis + Wagner’s wish of a lead guard role.
It’ll be interesting to see new GM Gabriel Harris’ philosophy in building a roster. What kind of guard do they value? How much are they willing to spend at the lead guard position?

NEWS: Memphis is involved with Arkansas transfer 6’4” G DJ Wagner, per source. Given the inflated market + name value, he has/will get offers in the ballpark of $1.5 million (low end around $1.1 w/ high end being around $1.5+). However, Wagner has already earned well over 7 figures at Arky + is primarily looking for a higher usage role for himself. Don’t expect money to be a deciding factor in this recruitment. Wagner - a former 5⭐️ recruit with ties to Memphis - averaged 7.4 PPG and 2.4 AST on 43/35/72 shooting splits on a sweet 16 team.

BREAKING: Memphis is hiring Stockton Kings GM Gabriel Harris as their new GM, per multiple sources.
Harris has served in a GM capacity for the Sacramento Kings organization the past two seasons. Before that, he served as an assistant coach on the Suns, Mavericks and Lakers for five seasons.
He fits the mold of what AD Ed Scott was looking for in a GM, somebody that has NBA front office experience.

DeLoach served as an assistant at several stops including Charlotte, UTSA and Jacksonville. He was recently nominated to the @SilverWaveMedia Elite 75 Future Head Coach List. Meanwhile, Mock spent the last seven years at Tulane as an assistant under Ron Hunter.
