(March 15, 2026 | 4:40 p.m. CT): Storm shelters are beginning to open in West Tennessee as many areas in the region are now under a Tornado Watch.
These shelters are opened and managed by local communities, and available locations can be found on TEMA’s interactive map. Shelters typically open when a tornado watch is issued. This map will continue to be updated.
Find the map here: tn.gov/tema/tennessee…

Be Ready, Tennessee. Take the time now to prepare before the storm arrives:
- Turn on weather alerts on your phone and monitor trusted local forecasts.
- Identify your safe place now — a sturdy building, ideally a small interior room on the lowest floor and away from windows.
- Bring in or tie down outdoor items like patio furniture, trash cans, trampolines, umbrellas, grills, and decorations so they do not become flying debris.
- Gather essentials in one place — flashlight, medications, shoes, water, pet supplies, and important documents.
- Charge phones and backup batteries in case power goes out.
- Know the difference between a watch and a warning. A watch means conditions are possible; a warning means take action now.
A few simple steps can help keep you and your family safe when severe weather hits.

Public Services at Notre Dame for Coach Lou Holtz
A public visitation will be held from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
On Monday, March 16, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Basilica. Limited seating in the Basilica will be available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. The line for those seats will begin at 8:00 a.m. outside of Sorin Hall.
Additional overflow seating with a livestream of the Mass will be available in Washington Hall (with Communion available) and the Purcell Pavilion in the Joyce Center. Doors to all three facilities will open at 11:30 a.m. Seating in Washington Hall and at Purcell Pavilion in the Joyce Center will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Following the Mass of Christian Burial, the public is welcome to honor Coach Holtz by assembling on both sides of Notre Dame Avenue as his family leads the funeral procession from Notre Dame Circle to the main entrance of the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Graveside services are private.
There will be additional opportunities to honor Coach Holtz during the upcoming football season.
The Catholic Church does not utilize flowers to decorate the altar during Lent.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to:
Holtz Charitable Foundation, Inc., Attn: Treasurer: 791 Pheasant Run Court, Port Orange, FL 32127 or at holtzfoundation.org
Or to: Indiana Trust Wealth Management, c/o Holtz’s Heroes Foundation, Inc, 4045 Edison Lakes Parkway, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or at holtzsheroes.org

A dynamic weather system will move into the region beginning Sunday and continue into Monday, bringing strong mountain winds, two rounds of severe weather potential, and even some snow. Here’s a breakdown of what we’re watching:

Things have escalated somewhat. The level 3 out of 5 has been dragged a little father east, but the biggest change is that the tornado risk has increased so that there is now a medium tornado threat generally west of I-65, which does include most of the Nashville Metro Area.

There are moments in life when words just aren’t enough. Losing Coach Holtz is one of those moments.
Coach was so much more than a football coach to me. He was family. I still remember the day he came to my house to recruit me. He didn’t just sit down and talk to me about football or what I could do on the field. He talked to me as a young man. And he spoke to my mom the way a man should speak to a mother who was trusting someone with her son. He looked her in the eye and promised that I would be taken care of at Notre Dame. That moment meant everything to us, and it’s something I’ve carried with me my entire life.
Coach Holtz believed in people. He believed in building men, not just players. He welcomed my entire family into the Notre Dame family and always made sure we felt that love and support. That’s who he was. He cared deeply about the people around him, and he made every one of us feel like we mattered.
The lessons he taught me went far beyond football. His faith, his discipline, his belief in doing things the right way shaped who I became as a man, a father, and a leader.
My heart is broken today, but I’m also filled with gratitude for the time I had with him and for the impact he had on my life. Coach will always be with us—in the lessons he taught, in the lives he changed, and in the love he gave so freely.
Thank you for everything, Coach. I love you.
You will forever be in our hearts.

Ben Sasse (Feb. 17, 2026): “America only works if people are deliberative, if people are thoughtful, if people say, ‘My soul matters, my kids’ soul matter, but my neighbor’s soul matters too.’ So I want to have a polity that works, but I know that you can’t compel a soul. So power isn’t the main thing. Our loves are the main thing.”

This is absolutely beautiful, @miketirico. Thank you, everyone, for all of your support and for fueling the dream. Like Mike said, sports mean so much to America, “they’re one of the few things that can still, truly, pull us together.” Thankful this Olympic Games did just that.🇺🇸

(February 6, 2026 | 10:15 a.m. CT): From the start of the Winter Storm Fern response, the state’s top priority has been restoring power for Tennesseans as quickly as possible. TEMA coordinated state and federal resources to support counties with cut-and-toss operations—an essential step in clearing downed trees that were blocking roads utility crews needed to reach impacted areas and restore service.
As more routes reopen and access improves, many cut-and-toss teams are beginning to demobilize. Even so, operations are still underway and will continue to support public safety and improve access for residents and responders.
