@justalexoki @Krissa_Kray_ Farenheit is a lot better for human comfort measurements, that's what it developed for and as such it has a lot of granularity over the human habitable range, and if you are doing science, kelvin is just non-relative celcius and is just better.

@goblinodds @xsphi Learned helplessness can be reproduced in lab rats. It's pretty straightforward too, just always do everything for them.

why are teenagers, as a class, so incapable of political self-defense? they're on the verge of losing access to large swaths of the internet, social media, and culture generally, and they... don't seem to care at all?

@HankHeil @nekoronogatari Not to mention actual competitive runners consider 500 miles or less to be "aight these shoes are done" because they loose their factory spring. Every competitive runner I've known has a closet full of expensive shoes that look near new that they consider used up.

@nekoronogatari The performance oriented brands make sneakers like tire companies make 200TW trackday tires. They are enthusiast centric and assume you're buying them to use them both sparingly and to the limit at events which means they are terrible for 95% of the people that actually buy them.

alright I've gotten basically eight months of reasonably heavy use out of these $80 colombia trail sneakers from marshall's and will definitely get 3-4 more. previous pair was $200 asics and I got literally three months before they fell apart. what gives

@anothergngrmech @NoContextBrits Come on now, be serious. Surely if confronted with a 200 pack of Tylenol loose in a bottle you would immediately eat as many as you could.

@anothergngrmech @NoContextBrits Most of them literally aren't allowed to do this. UK doesn't even let you open the windows more than a crack because a child might jump out and die or something.

@NoContextBrits You know what else is really well insulated? Freezers. Coolers. Refrigerators. Just get air conditioning. Also 79 isn't hot to us because most of us live far closer to the equator than you. You're on the same latitude as Maine.

@_Stocko_ Per "selector" I guess is the better way to phrase it. Adds a lot more gearing too

@patrickdoddboy the armatron actually does drive multiple dofs at once, but loses torque of course. which could be compensated for in the joint model i think..

@_Stocko_ Your big drawback is going to be the inability to simultaneously drive two DOF so it's going to have the classic jerky robot movement, and a hard time with dynamic tasks. You can get away with just one motor for the multiplexing tho.

so the crazy idea is.. what if you made one 3dof joint out of one big motor plus three tiny servos that activate the drive path like an armatron does?

@JoeStark0 @Xaraphim Both of these devices involve containing and extracting energy from very high temperature spinning particles. One does it electromagnetically, One does it mechanically. One could even dream of an open cycle fusion engine, but such a device would require operation in space.
