New: Andy Barr's campaign "parted ways" with its former campaign manager last week, days after old social media posts criticizing Trump (“loser,” a “stain on our party," etc) were surfaced by conservative media. That & more in this week's insider. amp.kentucky.com/news/politics-…

Congressman Nathaniel Moran
The United States of America must always be prepared to use overwhelming military force when necessary to defend our national security interests and protect Americans at home and abroad. And, a President should have the latitude to make decisions to that end, but only to the extent that those decisions are also consistent with the inherent authority of a Commander-in-Chief under the U. S. Constitution and the provisions of the War Powers Resolution. To date, I have supported the President’s decisions relating to the Iranian conflict because they were consistent with these authorities and the ultimate goal of protecting national security interests. At the same time, what sets America apart is not only our strength, but how we use it. Our nation has always conducted military operations for just causes and through just and moral means. This must continue in the future; otherwise we forfeit our legitimacy to lead the world. So, let me be clear: I do not support the destruction of a "whole civilization." That is not who we are, and it is not consistent with the principles that have long guided America.  I have and will continue to support a strong national defense—one that is focused, disciplined, and firmly rooted in protecting the safety and security of the American people. But, how we protect the lives of the innocent is just as important as how we engage the enemy. America is great because America is good.

Louie Gohmert announces he’ll vote for John Cornyn in the #TXSEN Republican runoff. Gohmert ran against Ken Paxton in 2022 and has remained critical of him, but this is the first time I’ve seen Gohmert express clear support for Cornyn in the current race.
Louie Gohmert@replouiegohmert

Despite Ken Paxton’s claims he essentially had crooks conspiring against him in his office just like Pres.Trump, Paxton ADMITTED in Court to all the facts & law specified against him in the pleadings by the whistleblowers he fired and retaliated against. That wasn’t at all like Pres. Trump’s situation. Judge Catherine Mauzy found on April 4, 2025[Case # D-1-GN-20-006861, TX 250th Judicial District Court] just as Paxton admitted, that he retaliated against & fired his top employees for reporting his corruption despite his long, loud claims to the contrary outside of court. Otherwise he’d have had to give a deposition under oath about specifics. Paxton learned from Bill Clinton that with all Paxton had to hide, he could not afford to allow anyone to ever ask him questions under oath. The trial judge accepted his in-court general admissions & issued judgment based on those admissions for a $6.6 MILLION judgment against Paxton. Right after court, for the benefit of his blind followers who would never read the transcript nor believe media reports, Paxton said publicly it was “a ridiculous judgment that is not based on the facts or the law” & that he would appeal the outrageous judgment. BUT IT WAS BASED ON FACTS & LAW PAXTON HAD JUST ADMITTED IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE THAT DAY! On May 2, 2025, Paxton appealed the judgment while he continued to publicly protest the unfair judgment he said he would definitely get overturned & supporters & legislators did not need to worry. If he had not appealed in May, the judgment would’ve become final & been presented to the Texas legislature for payment before they recessed at the end of May 2025 & that would’ve made all kinds of news with legislators up in arms against Paxton. Paxton assured them he’d get it reversed on appeal. After the Texas legislature adjourned at the end of May 2025 (not to reconvene until January 2027 AFTER the U.S.Senate race is over), Paxton quietly filed to dismiss his appeal on July 3, 2025 [#15-25-00085-CV, TX 15th Court of Appeals], since he really had nothing to appeal because he had admitted everything. The judgment is now final. Texas taxpayers are now stuck with the $6.6 million bill for the wrongs Paxton did to innocent attorneys in his office who tried to stop his corruption. Interest runs on the judgment at 7.5%. You don’t have to believe me. But don’t believe what he says either. Look up the case for yourself; look up his comments throughout. Look what he did and what and when he filed things including his dismissal of the appeal. Very cunning, but extremely dishonest. It sure sounds like Paxton is STILL slandering those he retaliated against though they are sincere, conservative, fine, ethical people. Look them up. Talk to them. They’re the kind of people conservatives should want working there. Though I appreciate the conservative lawsuits his assistant AGs have filed & continue to file, it’s the norm for Paxton to play the victim of the chaos his own lies & unethical behavior create. That lawsuit against him, though, is only the tip of the iceberg of Paxton dishonesty. At CPAC Paxton thanked God for getting him through “all that” impeachment, but it may have helped that he had mega-wealthy donors who made clear they would pay millions to defeat any state senator who voted to remove him during impeachment, & also we had a very poor, moderate Speaker of the House who handled it terribly. Another help to Paxton getting through “all that,” in my opinion, has been that he can speak dishonestly with a straight face more effectively than most anyone I’ve ever met, & I’ve seen some amazing liars in court & in Congress. When I ran against Paxton for AG in 2022, I hoped to beat him and end his corruption back then as well as have the assistant AG’s making sure all our counties were going to have fair elections in 2024. The AG doesn’t need criminal jurisdiction to file civil suits to keep elections clean. The lies he spread about me were ridiculous and east Texans knew that. Since I was an Eagle Scout, I’ve always stood against corruption, even when it made friends mad. Now our Republican Senate primary is down to 2 candidates. Though Senator John Cornyn & I have had differences at times & even made each other angry, he’s never lied to me_ not ever! In this primary runoff, I’ll be voting for John Cornyn. Voting for lies and corruption is not a choice.
