My ancestors ate potatoes because British inheritance laws subdivided their farms until they were easy to buy. Then absentee British landlords exported their crops while we starved. Potatoes were easy to grow - you could have them in your yard while you spent most of the day at starvation wages working for the English. They were nourishing and had a big yield. So mocking the Irish for eating potatoes is like mocking the Dutch for starving in the winter of ‘44.

@jan_murray Was it a small hotel? You could have asked to move rooms. I was in a very quiet countryside hotel. The Bin trucks were very noisey, and so were the delivery trucks . The nightclub that was attached to the hotel was loud the night before. Lots of reasons hotel's can be noisey

I was once enjoying a rare quiet hotel breakfast. On my own. No child needing their food cut up - or an emergency poo.
Then Margolyes arrived with a group of people (management/agent, I assume).
That was the end of my quiet breakfast.

Stupid idea . The car will be stuck on the path. They will also be removed by clever people. Sometimes, cars block the roads up parked on the street, so slightly up on the path/curb is useful and less dangerous.

@MaiaDunphy The gangs are out of control because they are being let go unchecked. Over the last 10-15 years the normalisation of cocaine in Irish society has been totally swept under the rug and the blindest of eyes turned. It needs a huge clean up by Garda with the full support of the state
