As they always do, the Democrats are talking about impeachment because President Trump acted in the best interests of America. Fortunately, though, Democrats limit their talk of impeaching President Trump to days that end in Y. Here's some facts for those spreading the lie that his strike on Iran was an impeachable offense. Under the war powers act, the President can act unilaterally as long as he notifies Congress in writing within 48 hours. Iran has been attacking the US both directly, and through proxies for over 40 years. President Trump didn't "take us to war" against Iran, these were limited strikes against a specific threat. Iran's constant threats against the US coupled with their active pursuit of a nuclear weapon makes this one a no brainer. Here's a list of Military actions previous Presidents have taken without prior Congressional approval. Notice that since 1941, every President with the exception of Dwight D. Eisenhower took military action without prior congressional approval and not one was impeached. Thomas Jefferson (1801–1805) Ordered naval action against the Barbary Pirates in the First Barbary War. While Congress later supported the effort, Jefferson acted unilaterally to protect U.S. shipping interests. James Polk (1846) Ordered U.S. troops to occupy disputed territory in Texas, precipitating the Mexican-American War. Congress later declared war, but Polk’s initial move was seen as a de facto declaration of war. Abraham Lincoln (1861) During the Civil War, while Congress was in recess, Lincoln issued proclamations to assemble state militias and blockade Southern ports. He later sought and received congressional ratification. William McKinley (1900) Dispatched troops to China during the Boxer Rebellion without congressional approval, citing the need to protect American lives and interests. Woodrow Wilson (1914–1917) Ordered military interventions in Mexico (Veracruz occupation) and Haiti without prior congressional approval, advancing presidential initiative in foreign policy. Franklin D. Roosevelt (1941) Directed the U.S. Navy to protect British shipping and ordered the occupation of Greenland and Iceland before U.S. entry into World War II, without congressional authorization. Bush (2001) Initiated military strikes in Afghanistan immediately after 9/11, before Congress passed the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF). Barack Obama (2011–2014) Ordered military intervention in Libya (2011) without congressional approval, arguing it did not fall under the War Powers Resolution. Also conducted operations against ISIS in Iraq and Syria (2014) without explicit authorization. Donald J. Trump (2017–2020) Ordered missile strikes on Syria (2017) and a drone strike against Iranian General Qassem Soleimani (2020) without prior congressional approval, citing existing AUMFs and Article II powers.
