my systems class is basically a less ambitious nand-to-tetris: - transistors & logic gates - binary representations - machine code (Scott CPU: sim4edu.com/sims/26/Scott-…) - assembly (LittleManComputer & MTMC msu.github.io/mtmc-web/) - C & compilers - VMs & networking really good for students to get a coherent story from silicon to high level programming languages
aisha@spinelessaisha

i don't think people realise *why* they teach you C still, yeah obivoulsy most people will not use C but there's a reason we learn in the first lace, you don't become a good programmer by relying on abstractions, hell they even taught us some assembly

@StickToCricket @BumbleCricket Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats a great test match; the ebb and flow, the ultimate test of body and mind. The only sport in the world where a draw can be the most exhilarating of results. I will love test cricket forever.

@robfordmancs Even in her follow up tweet, she says “Overwhelmingly, people are in agreement with me.” No. Overwhelmingly, people who are still on Twitter and have chosen to reply to you are not a good proxy for the general public. Every time I come back on here, I despair a little more.

The effect is insidious. It is impossible not to have such views more in your mind if exposed to them every day, whether you reject them utterly or sympathise somewhat, they will be more on your mind. It is a slow poison weakening our political class through brain damage.

Judging someone purely on where they spent their first few years of life, not on their record and merits as an individual, is pretty much the definition of racism. And I'll bet Lucy wouldn't disqualify Boris Johnson because he was born in New York, New York.

Today, the Deputy Speaker presiding over the Budget Statement in the UK House of Commons is Nus Ghani. Nus Ghani was born in Kashmir, Pakistan. There should not be a single person born in Pakistan in the UK House of Commons.

@charlesarthur Discoverability a real problem with all these different streamers. We have most of them, and finding things is a real ballache.

Watching brilliant WSL match Arsenal v Chelsea. Great game but one of the worst decisions bet a ref that I’ve ever seen to disallow an Arsenal goal for handball. It didn’t touch hand or arm. Really terrible. She’ll be ashamed when she sees it back

I am using slidev sli.dev It is very good in many ways, but is pretty bad at reporting errors (and touchy with respect to how you format things) we had to create a custom layout to show larger code blocks, which we should publish at some point

@htmx_org This is very relevant to my interests. Have been planning to do the same, thank you for the encouragement! Is there any tool in particular that you recommend for markdown based slides?

@Google If I click the Gemini button while viewing a private page that shows me API keys in plain text, is there a chance that someone in six months time might ask Gemini for an API key for that service and have mine returned to them?

In today’s least surprising news, @lastminute_com delivering awful customer service. Couldn’t be less helpful, everything is our fault, all whilst failing to deliver the service paid for. Avoid.

@patmurphybbc I watch a lot of American sport, and these “in-game” interviews add nothing of value. Pointless addition to the PL.

He wouldn’t co-operate. Cloughie knew that TV always wanted more…. and he’d be interviewed on his terms. Quite right too…

@patmurphybbc What do you think your opening gambit to BH Clough (and his reply) would be if they were losing at HT..? 😆

@paulbailey All of the answers I'm getting are from people who actually seem to LIKE the loathesome spoiled brat Ferris Bueller. This is madness to me.

Is… anyone still here? I’ve come back to plug the website I’ve just built. countycricket.live All the official YouTube match streams on one page with score summaries. If you like #cricket I think it’s worth a look.
