A crude theory about tech I have is that the hard tech is shifting from the “app layer” into the “SaaS/infra layer” and that being good at tech in the top layer is going to be much less of an advantage since the bottom layer sells to everyone

I’m sorry, I simply cannot be cynical about a technology that can accomplish this.

I’ve investigated at length and determined that in order to be happy in any given city all you need is six close friends there

I would easily double or triple my $ spend on news if I could sign up for something that gets rid of all paywalls. Massive bundling opportunity. Why doesn't this exist?

@halfbyte Absolutely, from an engineering perspective, "raw data" makes sense and carries a clear shared meaning! Sociologists would argue it's also the result of agency, nudging, social constructs and so forth. Something to keep in mind, I guess.

Data facts: Against the implications of the term „raw data”, a pure and unadulterated form of data never exists.

@datenwolf Ah, interesting. It's <USB3 and exhibits noise in idle. Not suited for IEMs. But with the right headphones and during playback, I don't hear a thing.

@paulsolbach Is the USB connection USB-3, or does it use an older standard? USB-3 uses a different physical signalling scheme, namely it uses balanced, AC coupled signals, which are trivially to filter and isolate from the analog side. USB-1 and 2 are notorious for their 1kHz burst noise.

Super happy I made the switch from Spotify to Apple Music! Lossless and 96/24+ feels like falling in love with music all over again.

2nd edition of The Data Revolution just delivered. It's had a complete overhaul - 2 chapters deleted, 10 added (on critical data studies, dataveillance, data capitalism, governance, security, ethics, justice & activism, civil society), rest extensively revised. Now 50% longer.

Why aren't Lambdas (or Cloud Functions or whatever you call it) used more for backend development? Is it because the development workflow is lacking? Too expensive? Anything else?
