The Edmonton Police Service has issued Canada-wide warrants for a suspect named Arjun Sahnan, who is allegedly involved in an ongoing extortion investigation in Edmonton and a shooting incident in Winnipeg. Sahnan, 19, is wanted in connection with two drive-by shootings believed to be linked with the extortion investigation, as well as a separate shooting in Winnipeg on December 24, 2023. In Edmonton, shots were fired at a home in the Cy Becker neighborhood, targeting an upstairs bedroom window where six people, including two children, were asleep. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Additionally, a shooting incident occurred in northwest Winnipeg, where shots were fired at a house occupied by several individuals. Despite the bullets narrowly missing occupants, no injuries were sustained. Both incidents involved attempts to extort money from homeowners prior to the shootings. Furthermore, Sahnan is suspected to have ties to the South Asian community in Edmonton, particularly in the home-building industry. Investigators believe Sahnan has fled to India, but authorities are actively seeking information on his whereabouts. The investigation, known as Project Gaslight, encompasses a total of 32 incidents involving attempted extortions, shootings, and fires targeting the South Asian home-building community in Edmonton between October 2023 and January 2024.
