I’ve tried real hard not to worry about tanking or lottery odds but to fall back into a tie for 7th vs 6th on the last game of the regular season is frustrating as hell.

@AirwingMarine @PaulTassi Why is the cost of Marathon’s development controversial? It seems pretty obvious to me that it was an expensive game to make given Bungie is a AAA developer (with talent paid as such) and it was in the oven for 5+ years.

@PaulTassi So why not say that in the article? You know the cost of Marathon's development is a constantly discussed topic and is highly controversial.

Quoting @PaulTassi article for this, but still no sources of any of it. I hate that kind of shit. Now Paul's article will be treated as a primary source even though there is no evidence or even an indication of where he got the number from in this article. Just "I can confirm Marathon’s budget is over $200 million. Likely more than $250 million." How is it confirmed? Did you talk to someone in the studio privy to that info? Is there an industry report somewhere?

Project Hail Mary writer Andy Weir on social commentary in books: "I dislike social commentary. Like… I really hate it. When I’m reading a book, I just want to be entertained, not preached at by the author. Plus, it ruins the wonder of the story if I know the author has a political or social axe to grind. I no longer speculate about all possible outcomes of the story because I know for a fact that the universe of that book will conspire to ensure that the author’s political agenda is validated. I hate that." "I put no politics or social commentary into my stories at all. Anyone who thinks they see something like that is reading it in on their own. I have no point to make, and I’m not trying to affect the reader’s opinion on anything. My sole job is to entertain, and I stick to that." "To that end, I also don’t talk about my personal political opinions publicly. I don’t want readers to even know, honestly. I don’t want that in the back of their minds as they read my stuff." Is this why he has the #1 sci-fi movie in decades?

the vision is blinding me - get Coop shooting some more 3s next year (6-7 a game minimum) - pair him with another strong-elite playmaker in this years draft - Lively coming back - playing off/kicking out to Kyrie feel like an obvious massive 2nd year leap is coming

If this is what top players’ vaults look like I’m a bit concerned for the health of non-cryo matches during the week going forward. What loot will Benny want during the week that’s on the other maps? Probably your best argument for ranked mode being around all week right here. @MarathonDevTeam

Michael Finley on why he feels ready to potentially take the jump to be the Mavericks’ GM: “I think I am Dallas. I’m everything Dallas is about. I played here, through the good times and the bad times, and as a fan of the Mavericks, I know what it takes and I know what the fans are looking for. So I would love to have the chance to lead this franchise into the future and to ultimately championship contenders.”

🔥 BREAKING 🔥 China has suspended fertiliser exports while farmers in the United States & Australia face shortages. The Chinese government has instructed exporters to halt all overseas shipments of fertiliser blends. Australia imports the majority of its fertiliser- roughly 70-75% of ammonium phosphate & nearly all of its urea primarily from the Middle East, China & Southeast Asia. This is extremely serious.

@wutwot @AI_EmeraldApple I agree. Marathon definitely feels like it’s on an R6 trajectory. The players that are invested absolutely love it, and that bodes well for the future of the game.

@AI_EmeraldApple It's a great game, the current meta on X is just to shit on any new game, it's building a core dedicated playerbase and will likely grow slowly like R6 Siege did.

Marathon is in a death spiral. Week to week, peak players are dropped by over 10k players, and when numbers are this low, they cannot afford to bleed any more players. Add to that where Paul Tassi said that most of the Marathon players are on PC, these numbers are apocalyptic for a game that cost over $200 million to produce and develop... It means that these steam numbers are the main story... not some hidden console numbers. Aside from game sales, the revenue stream relies on microtransactions within the game's shop. MTX with only 50k peak players is not enough for a game of this scale and budget. These declining numbers lead to the "social proof" effect, which makes whales hesitant when it comes to their purchases. Bungie needs a miracle, some patch that fixes all of the glaring issues... but let's face it... People are just not interested in hardcore extraction shooters, while getting a visual migraine from the effects and colors.

@bernd_damian @JakeSucky @realrustyfinn I honestly hope you’re right bro. Bungie turning back to the player friendly studio it used to be those years ago, will potentially help save both Marathon and Destiny. They’ve got a lot of work to do to win back the community’s trust though.

Looked at the DLSS 5 stuff. Am I missing something here, cause almost all of this looks great and better than the original. I’m convinced people are a bunch of virtue signaling sheep that hear the phrase “AI” and immediately jump on their high horse with phrases like “UGH AI SLOP!” A lot of it isn’t even slop. It looks great. And if you didn’t know something was AI and I told you it was an artist’s work, you’d love it. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of bad shit that comes from AI. Tons. But not everything that is associated with AI is bad and folks need to come to terms with this and stfu and stop pretending you’re better than it or everyone. AI is the future. It always has been. It will continue to be. And it’s gonna get stronger with its presence. This will happen whether you like it or not. So learn to work “with” it and not just blindly dismiss it.

@Vehk102 @Gladd If the devs embrace the tech, who are we to complain about them using it? They have full control over the vision for their game and many devs have already come out supporting the benefits of DLSS 5.

There's a countless number of reasons why this is bad but I'll just list off my top 3: 1.) It completely and fundamentally changes the way the game is meant to look with ai filtered super realism. Some games can benefit from that, but if a character model goes from an intentional design to a yassified filter, it ruins the creative vision of the game and its artistic consistency. Unfortunately, if I have to convince you why art from humans is more worthwhile than interpretative generated art from ai, then you're just fundamental broken. 2.) Every game will now suffer from an easily accessible technology that most companies will see as a net benefit bc it reduces cost and, on the surface, makes it look "improved." The same reason every UE5 game looks the same, this will also be another symptom of uncreative people utilizing technology to create a generic, unremarkable game. It will offload actual creative vision to an ai that will simply do it for them. 3.) Consuming human generated content is now becoming financially difficult due to ram and GPU shortages; we are being priced out of affording PCs every year so that these companies can use those parts to develop a technology that can run on lower end pcs, pcs that most people can now only afford. And the result is that if we want good looking games to run on our pcs, we are forced to use generative ai to simulate a good game instead of simply having one, along with the hardware to run it.
