@DanNeidle @policy_uk @ntrickett16 Depends what the rate was at the time. Look at European % five years ago. 25 year mortgage at under 2%. And no, they weren't 1% higher at the time. Please check.

@policy_uk @ntrickett16 How many people would buy a 30 year mortgage in the UK, were one available, given the rate would be around 1% higher?

@GordonMcKeeMP There's always Manchester and Sheffield, miserable train service as an alternative to a couple of very scenic A roads. Pretty, but not efficient.

@Kevin_Maguire Was Magnus tipped off by Trump Friday would be a good time to deliver his report? And Simons should have waited until a lull in the bombing and missiles? OK.

And Josh Simons is gone under cover of Trump and Netanyahu’s attack on Iran, the now former Minister’s politically murky past catching up with him. theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

@RossKempsell @GuidoFawkes He said it was a 24 hour trip. It’s not. Get a map. He had no intention of going. And ok to go, no, see FCDO guidance. For an MP, perhaps if arranged, which he didn’t. But you know all this.

It is completely wrong to deny access to British Indian Ocean Territory to a UK parliamentarian. It is possible to enter BIOT with permission on reasonable grounds - given public interest the FCDO should not deny British parliamentarians access to British overseas territories

@BrynHarris6 but Judah's article does provide background explaining why every western military and security service supports the deal and long has.

Fascinating insight into the Chagos deal. I think it gives what is (or could be) an honest explanation of how the government ended up here (ie in a mess). The problem for Judah & the government: only a fool could honestly believe in such an explanation. 1/ thetimes.com/article/0f6430…

@Gabriel_Pogrund This is excellent, but the article today thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar… What's this in the video clip where you say Starmer extracted an apology? He got Trump to apologise for the NATO troop slur? For some reason it's not in the podcast.

@mrjeffu Soon after fires started, v sadly. Brought in new disaster preparation policies. Heaters that switch off when toppled, nationwide upgrade of supports for elevated roadways. Also when govt looked more seriously at critical infrastructure protection, particularly communications.

@JohnRentoul 2 reasons? If Reform form the next govt, Conservative party as we know it is gone; a 2nd Labour term, they can come back. They know Reform will not be able to govern - who in Reform shadows what, has a clue about government, running ministries? This should worry everyone.
