The full second episode of The Network Society is now available on X. It’s our best production yet. We visited Puerto Rico’s biotech hub to explore new cancer and blindness treatments, then returned to @Prosperahn to discuss startup-driven regulatory alternatives. Enjoy it.

With this new algo, it seems like a great opportunity to upload the second episode of Network Society Series here on X too.

We need a name for the opposite of the famous “boiling frog.” Someone living through endless progress, yet unable to appreciate it, and dying depressed. I guess that’s one of the few advantages of living in an emerging country. The impact of technological innovation is much more concrete and noticeable.
Seth Harp@sethharpesq

Technology is making the world worse. Nothing good has been invented in the last 25 years. Superfluous, spurious innovations that seem impressive at first, like the iPhone, take back more than they give and ultimately benefit only oppressive governments and their oligarch allies.

I'd love to see Peter spending more time building onchain solutions. I think the ecosystem would strongly benefit from his pragmatic user-centric approach in building.

💸 Today I invested in a new thing: Ethereum is essentially a public spreadsheet with every transaction being visible for everyone forever But that makes it impossible to use for banks because it's not private. Imagine you buy something and everyone in the entire world can see it? That'd be never be accepted So my friend @oskarth has been working on a new thing called @eth_systems that lets banks use Ethereum but while keeping transactions private Before this he was working for 10 years on stuff like zk-SNARK (math tricks that let you prove something is true without revealing the details) and advising the Ethereum Foundation, he's the most high IQ person I know, so when he started something that's for-profit (after lots of non-profit work) I asked to invest immediately YC always taught me to invest in people not companies, the companies (and product) can change (and should) and it can pivot into lots of other things, but if you trust the person you can estimate a higher likelihood of it (and your investment) working out If you like to see what they will make, follow @eth_systems 😊😊😊

The algorithm is way better. The question is: did they use GPT5.6 or Fable to fix it?

Being immersed in AI can give you the illusion that everyone is doing it. Being constantly on X increases that perception. But as soon as you step outside the bubble, you realize most people barely use AI at all. And when they do, it’s usually just as a better search engine. If you’re already automating your work with agents, vibe coding apps, building spreadsheets, you’re insanely far ahead.

@JoeAnderson83 pre 2020 we had a crazy period of ZIRP, and the tech industry grew too much, leading to insanely high wages for developers. After a period of correction, we are seeing numbers rise again, precisely because of AI.

Imagine not learning software development because a random specialist said AI would replace you. Demand for developers keeps growing. We won't see a sign of job replacement for a long time.

@JoeAnderson83 Layoffs are very common for tech companies. They usually grow too fast, then need to be tightened a bit to increase productivity. This is not an AI phenomenon. The open opportunities for developers keep increasing.

@peerbase_ But why are all the large tech companies laying off people due to AI?

I understand @bryan_johnson’s criticism of people who convince themselves that bad habits are necessary to truly live. He is right. But beyond that, there are plenty of non-NPC lifestyles that aren’t compatible with putting longevity above everything else. If you want to become a world-class athlete, for example, you’ll probably have to make tradeoffs between longevity and performance. A powerlifter may need to overeat. Anyone deeply into outdoor sports like football or surfing will get a lot of sun exposure. Most serious athletic careers also come with injuries. The same goes for becoming a world-class artist. You may sacrifice sleep, constantly change time zones, and push your body in ways that aren’t ideal for longevity. The way I see it, you should make those compromises only in the areas that bring you real meaning and satisfaction, rather than for short-term pleasure or mindless social habits like eating junk food, drinking, or staying up late for no reason. Trading a few years for a truly memorable life may be worth it. The real regret would be sacrificing your health with no meaningful upside.
