The term "theological liberalism" is thrown around a lot. When push comes to shove though, it still boils down to Richard Niebuhr's summation of what theological liberalism truly is: "A God without wrath brought men without sin into a kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a cross" (Kingdom of God in America, 193). Liberal/progressive Christianity is more than that but it is no less than that, and it will always come down to it. Niebuhr's words 89 years ago are just as applicable in 1937 as they are today.

INCOME TAX: WA Senate Republican Leader John Braun responds to majority Democrats passing legislation to create a state income tax. SB 6346 was passed with a 27-22 vote: This income-tax bill clearly goes against our state constitution as well as 90-plus years of legal precedent. The Democrats passed it anyway, even though they know the people have also rejected an income tax at every opportunity in those past 90-plus years. “We learned during today’s debate why the prime sponsor doesn’t seem concerned about constitutionality – he said in so many words that Washington’s constitution is wrong to consider your income as your property. I suspect many in our state would take offense at that, as they should. “Supporters insist this tax would apply only to high earners. Do they think the people of our state are fools who can’t see the real intent? Because the sponsors refused to refer this to the voters, Republicans offered an amendment to preserve the public’s right to weigh in through a referendum if it becomes law. Washingtonians deserve a clear, direct vote on something this important and expensive. The majority rejected our amendment. It’s undemocratic how they are shutting the public out. “There also are real economic consequences to consider. In recent years the family employers across our state have faced wave after wave of new taxes. The income tax represents another step in dismantling an economy that had served us well. If we want job growth, economic opportunity, and long-term prosperity, this is not the way forward.” The fight over SB 6346 now moves to the House. I’m sorry about this brother, my intention was never to bring any unintended criticism on the content of the post, merely recognized the image as it’s one I’ve worked with quite a bit. If these people are being drawn from my content I would encourage them to stop being more obnoxious than necessary. I was doing nothing more than ask a question about the manuscript image. For the record I take your correction on the vs. divisions and will apply it going forward.

This place is something else. Wes Huff corrects an error in a post I made today, (which actually was just that I attached the wrong picture of a Greek fragment and my post was factually correct), and it gets 1,400 likes and 22,000 impressions. (And I am still getting dunked on by his fanatics in the comments!) I then corrected him in one of his posts (where he got an actual fact wrong ) and the post gets 3 likes and not a single person treats him as they did me. This place is miserable 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

My wife, her family and all her friends are from Venezuela. This is the GREATEST thing that has happened to their country in 25+ years. A total dictatorship had Maduro who was the driver of the previous president running a literal drug cartel out of the country. He turned the #1 wealthiest country in South America, #1 country for oil reserves, #1 country for Miss Americas, #1 country for tallest waterfall and SO many more special things... Into a place that I personally cannot even visit for fear of getting kidnapped and ransom. Basic medicine is not available, food is hard to get plus expensive, power goes out daily, media is completely censored, dissidents are put in jail and Maduro gave all the money to his friends / allies. While all the hardworking and smart Venezuelans left the country in the LARGEST EVER exodus of any country. 8 million Venezuelans. I don't fully comprehend or will speculate why the US got involved but I'm grateful to return the country back to its amazing roots of democracy.

Though, I believe you are correct to point out that Bonhoeffer himself was not using Just War as justification for his own decision process. Neither should the individual Christian use Just War theory to justify murder. That is left for the decision of the leaders of groups at war — including resistance groups actively at war against a tyrannical government.

@joshkezer @howertonjosh This is a more accurate take. Also, I think one can make the Just War war theory for Bohnoeffer because he was part of a group (albeit small) that was operating within the government to pull off a coup and stop the war. Many of those members were also government officials.

Bonhoeffer's attempted assassination of Hitler wasn't a DEVIATION from Christianity; it was an APPLICATION of it. Biblically "Just War" (Romans 13, Augustine, Aquinas) had been declared on a man committing demonic genocide, and Bonhoeffer acted out of those convictions.
