this is actually insane > be tech guy in australia > adopt cancer riddled rescue dog, months to live > not_going_to_give_you_up.mp4 > pay $3,000 to sequence her tumor DNA > feed it to ChatGPT and AlphaFold > zero background in biology > identify mutated proteins, match them to drug targets > design a custom mRNA cancer vaccine from scratch > genomics professor is “gobsmacked” that some puppy lover did this on his own > need ethics approval to administer it > red tape takes longer than designing the vaccine > 3 months, finally approved > drive 10 hours to get rosie her first injection > tumor halves > coat gets glossy again > dog is alive and happy > professor: “if we can do this for a dog, why aren’t we rolling this out to humans?” one man with a chatbot, and $3,000 just outperformed the entire pharmaceutical discovery pipeline. we are going to cure so many diseases. I dont think people realize how good things are going to get

the unfortunate reality is that as AI spam floods job portals and resumes contain increasing amounts of fake information - companies are likely going to bring the reference check step way earlier in the process You already see this with companies needing a warm referral or intro to actual get to the interview step

(1) This is the gravesite of my 5XG-grandfather in rural Schuylkill County PA. He, his 3 brothers, and father were members of the PA 8th Regiment, Continental Army (2) if you judge someone's Americanness by their DNA, you get an F- in being American

@philiplang @WillManidis Our coach told us exactly that...about two months before we won the Olympics. We had a good chuckle because there is some truth in it.

@WillManidis My high school coach used to say that the rowers are the people who weren't coordinated enough for track or any ball sports. Perhaps selection bias in that it's a brutal sport where success is earned through hard work and a little genetic luck.

has any sport produced more successful business people/asset managers than rowing? what explains the out performance of elite rowers compared to say baseball?

@Sean_Killion @WillManidis A college rower might train twice daily for nine months+ and get about 60 minutes of actual competition time in April and May. It takes a certain kind. (2/2)

@Sean_Killion @WillManidis Of course, I do. While I am not as familiar with the hyper successful swimmer-asset managers, I know of a couple. Among the rowers, there are a ton. I won't pick a food fight here, but will point out that both sports are heavy on hard work and delayed gratification. (1/2)

My review of the new Philly-set Hallmark holiday movie, "Christmas on Call," which features a cameo by Donna Kelce, the phrase "Whizout," a reference to Frank Rizzo, and at least half a dozen "Go Birds." It is a pandering sap fest. I loved it. 1/2 inquirer.com/columnists/chr…
