Please join us in welcoming our son to the world; little Frederick John Reed. Both mum & Freddie are healthy & truly remarkable. We can’t believe how lucky we are. Well done @jeanniecorby! We’ve had a very private 2023 and no bad thing. Thank you all for the love. 🎄👶🎁

@GerryThorne @willnorman @yunextraffic And that is ok Gerry. I didn’t see it for 38 years so I don’t blame you, now I see it daily. I’ll help you see it in time as you follow me. The issue is much bigger than signposting disabled loos sadly. Happy to learn with you mate. Stay warm and well fed. 🫡

@PeteReed @willnorman @yunextraffic Must be horrible being restricted in some activities ,…and I can see where a modified facility might need signing eg disabled toilets and disabled parking spaces..I just don’t see how it works or makes a difference on a pedestrian crossing 🤷‍♂️

Delighted to join @PeteReed to launch UK's first green wheelchair sign on a pedestrian crossing. London celebrates diversity. We want to increase visibility of disabled Londoners & will continue to improve our network for people with accessibility needs. standard.co.uk/news/transport…

@PeteReed @willnorman @yunextraffic Sorry, I can’t see it …to me it’s just tokenism which I would think many disabled people would find condescending but if you are happy then that’s fine ..

@GerryThorne @willnorman @yunextraffic Examples: A place to use the loo. A room in a hotel at short notice. Any place to eat. Not to get stared at. A way to travel anywhere. Access to the front of the building. A place to park. Safe clothes to wear. Work. Independence. It starts with visibility. Ride safely. Later 🫡

@GerryThorne @willnorman @yunextraffic It’s not about disabled people knowing how to cross a road. It is about being in the conscious mind of designers, architects, policy makers, transport designers, public, tourism, service industry so that we can eventually take for granted the things that you take for granted. 🫡

@WG_RC @TfL Very many thanks. Totally polarised response on Twitter/X, who knew. 😂😂😂 I’ve not posted for months since the rebrand. Thank you for being a positive reply and reason to pop back on.

I haven’t opened or Tweeted on X for months in favour of a rather more private 2023; and no bad thing. So thank you all for bearing with me. Ahead of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, it was a pleasure to launch a green wheelchair user with @TfL. More to follow.

This is fabulous. I can’t believe how difficult it is to take or plan a journey with mobility disability. So far to go but this is a great start.

@GerryThorne @willnorman @yunextraffic Love your point of view; I’m happy to disagree. I’m disabled and I don’t feel any pity. I don’t want to live in a world designed by one demographic, for one demographic and part of that change is visibility & awareness. More confident disabled people out & about is a win for all

@PeteReed @willnorman @yunextraffic What a lot of word salad ..somebody has to pay for the change and eventually that will fall to the public purse as nobody else buys pedestrian crossing lights, and it’s condescending to the disabled who really don’t need their differences to be pointed out at every opportunity.

@MarkSharon_DP Hi again Mark. My best to your son. I get it more than most. I know the lived reality of a lack of access. My life is riddled with challenge, blocks and avoidable catastrophes. It is awful. But I will never rant and will support positive change to help you and others.🫡

@petereed, meet with my 25 year old CP son and let's discuss what life's really like. Do an inventory of disabled access to public transport around those crossings. It will be dire. Look at dropped kerbs. Come to Sheen and URR. Disabled need practical solution not gestures.

@gaz_pow @willnorman Hi Gaz, all of my time and expense was my own and the lights were generously implemented by private sector @YunexTraffic. It’s a small thing but high visibility & for communities that are unseen & who lack confidence to contribute in London, it’s a very positive roll. 🫡💚

@holmeschap @willnorman Hi Ken, thanks for copying me in. I can understand why you would message that, but please be reassured that costs were met by private sector @YunexTraffic very generously and I was there from my own pocket & time. The project is about visibility which will help people and save ££

@GerryThorne @willnorman Bless you Gerry. It’s not about that mate. No public expense as costs met by @yunextraffic. I was there to support. The light is more for visibility of difference to the majority able-bodied who don’t get the chance to see, think or design for difference. Big change starts small.

@willnorman @PeteReed Isn’t that treating the disabled as children ? Ooh here’s a picture of a wheelchair because you might be too stupid to know that the long standing green man symbol also applies to women, children, any other of the 170 genders and the disabled .. more public money wasted ..

@JanJJanJ1 @willnorman Please be assured that the cost to implement the lights was generously met by @YunexTraffic and I wasn’t paid. So no public expense. I have been a public servant for 24 years, love the city and wish to help with increasing visibility and positive changes in a constructive way💚🫡

@CdreAHofman @TfL Thank you Cdre Ali 🫡 Progress not perfection. A bit of visibility leads to a bit of discussion, understanding, compassion, design, removal of barriers, building access, open doors, new facilities, more confidence, more contribution and fewer people regressing to hospital. 💚
