@visegrad24 The path to affordable rent is to remove rent controls, reduce permitting requirements, facilitate a dramatic increase in supply from the private market: the exact opposite of what these idiots are doing.
English

Despite Mayor Zohran Mamdani's rent freeze on nearly 1 million rent-stabilized apartments, New York City's housing crisis continues to worsen.
New data shows the average rent for a one-bedroom apartment hit a record $5,408/month in Manhattan and $4,297/month in Brooklyn in June, while median rents in both boroughs rose roughly 8% year-over-year.
At the same time, around 57,000 rent-stabilized apartments sat vacant in 2025. Many landlords cannot afford the renovations needed to bring them back onto the market under frozen rents, worsening the city's housing shortage.
Meanwhile, NYC Comptroller Mark Levine warned the affordability crisis has reached "DefCon 1" and called for major housing reforms.

English

@ByronYork These people are crazy. Who in would produce the housing these people have a supposed right to? The government? Note government only realizes taxes from productive people who create things other people voluntarily avail themselves of.
English

The perfect world of the DSA. "You have no debt. You don't need health insurance. You don't pay a mortgage or have a landlord, because comfortable housing is a human right. Your retirement is publicly funded. Food, education, energy, medicine, and transportation aren't for-profit businesses; they are common goods and utilities." washingtonexaminer.com/daily-memo/465…

Rep. Adam Smith decried that “I am deeply concerned about the tactics used by those on the far left to advocate for cutting off aid to Israel. To date, my family and I have had our home vandalized, a fire has been set in my driveway, my neighbors’ lives have been disrupted by demonstrations in the middle of the night, town halls meant to be forums for dialogue have been shut down, and a staff member has been physically assaulted." He then voted to cut off aid to Israel.

Trump seemingly has a plan for the U.S. election system: Dismantle it with a series of cuts, firings and threats, rather than a sledgehammer.
“This is a concerted effort of death by a thousand cuts,” said a Dem county clerk. “Every day is another battle." politico.com/news/2026/07/1…

@jammles9 A collection of people looking for someone to blame for their failure to assume responsibility for their own lives. Imagine the reality if these people get political power.
English

DSA is not simply a group of “democratic socialists.”
It operates as an umbrella for electoral socialists, ecosocialists, Marxists, Marxist-Leninists, Trotskyists, anarchist, abolitionists and revolutionary anti-imperialists.
These factions disagree over tactics, but they remain under one organization because they share the same goal: build political power, recruit younger voters and get their own members elected.
Their strategy relies heavily on social media, college campuses and youth organizing because they understand that long-term political influence begins by shaping voters early.
The caucuses fight over reform versus revolution, centralized discipline versus bottom-up organizing and whether to remain inside the Democratic Party or eventually break from it.
But many of them do not align with mainstream Democrats at all.
They use the Democratic ballot line because it provides ballot access, campaign infrastructure, media attention and the fastest route into office.
The plan is to win primaries in deep-blue districts, build a socialist bloc inside government, pressure elected members to follow DSA priorities and steadily move the party further left.
Pay attention.

English

@micsolana When do these policies rise to the level of a scheme to effect a government taking? Where is the push back?
English

the purpose is to force owners to give up and sell. following recent policy, NGOs will then have first right to buy. the goal of the DSA is a system in which a small class of very left-wing people are empowered to decide who is and is not permitted to live in NYC.
Polymarket@Polymarket
JUST IN: Mamdani proposes banning NYC landlords from requiring both proof of income & a credit check — while forcing landlords or brokers to pay any credit-check fees.
English

@micsolana True. I recommend candidates endorsed by the Club for Growth: clubforgrowth.org/elections/pac-…. You can be assured these candidates will not get squeezy.
English

@perrymetzger @jlippincott ... or they fund the capital required for the utility to increase output, or they pay to build their own generating capacity. (Politicians tend to be really dumb.)
English

@jlippincott Furthermore, it's based on a pretty bad understanding of how this works. You talk to the power company before you build any such thing and they tell you if they have power available for you. If they don't, you don't build it in the first place.
English

No, this doesn't make sense.
It isn't up to the government of New York what should get built in the state. The purpose of government is to protect citizen's property, not steal it.
Ryan Petersen@typesfast
tbh when you can’t generate enough power to run AC below 78, you really shouldn’t be building data centers so this makes sense
English

@PuppetEdgar @samtripoli @grok Results from stopping federal NGO funding. Unbelievable that national Democrats funded the effort to destroy our Constitution.
English

@samtripoli @grok What's also weird is the diminishing frequency of large lefty nationwide protests, like No Kings, Hands Off, etc.
English

@StephenMoore Thank-you New York! I've been a resident of Florida for 37 years. Couldn't be happier with my choice.

I do not say this lightly: As a new and virulent strain of antisemitism spreads via algorithmic media and artificial intelligence, my life's work an an historian has been a failure. What now? A new essay with John-Clark Levin for @TheFP

@PuppetEdgar Get those clicks. Destroy debate. Just blather incoherently. What a way to make a living.

@realJennaEllis Oh, I almost forgot securing the border and deporting illegals who decline to leave voluntarily.
English

@realJennaEllis Jenna, I am becoming convinced you are delirious. The 2025 tax reform bill is historic. Add the reduction in federal regulations, the end of the CO2 endangerment finding, the expansion of energy production and many other accomplishments, and you get an amazing record.

If data centers are really “LIQUID GOLD,” then New Yorkers deserve more than scraps.
We hit pause because the communities powering AI should share in its success.
Maybe that’s a novel concept in Washington. We call it doing our job.

@jacobin @ZohranKMamdani NYC voters need to wake up. Mandami is a 34 year old with zero experience in anything that would provide insights into either socialism or capitalism. He is an empty idealogue with a convincing smile. Time to push him out before the pain gets severe.
English

"Socialists not only understand economics just as well as capitalists... but can solve their years of mismanagement through an embrace of our principles." — @ZohranKMamdani
English

I think we should give leaders of the DSA a nice large piece of government land near an existing city that is financially healthy. Let them form their own government where they invite like minded residents and start collecting taxes. They can call it Nirvana Town. Then lets compare the social and economic outcomes. Let the fun begin!🤣
English

DSA's Michaela Brangan explained that, with socialism, you can decide if you want to work or when you want to take days off. You will have no debt in a world without capitalism. Oh, and the next DSA convention will be held on Big Rock Candy Mountain: youtube.com/watch?v=L6np9n… ...
