It’s been 1 year since Babylon mainnet launch. Over the past year, billions in TVL have been activated through Trustless Bitcoin Staking, demonstrating the value of productive native BTC. Trustless Bitcoin Vaults are next, bringing native Bitcoin collateral into on-chain finance. Thank you to everyone who has supported, contributed and helped shape Babylon with us over the past year.

Ecosystem-specific stablecoins backed by RWAs is interesting vision, but creates massive fragmentation problem. When thousands of stablecoins exist (each optimized for specific ecosystem), liquidity fragments exponentially. Execution infrastructure that routes across fragmented stablecoin markets becomes critical.

Why would an ecosystem rent its money when it can own its economy? The next phase of stablecoins won’t be a few giants. It will be thousands of ecosystem-specific stablecoins. Each backed by tokenized RWAs of their choice. Each unlocking liquidity, yield, greater efficiency, control, and data analytics for that ecosystem. Powered by STBL Money-as- a-Service. Dear Babylonian, I’ve been asked about our team status quite a few times this week, so I figured I should provide a quick update on our team expansion and adjustments. We are heads-down and laser-focused on building trustless Bitcoin collateral vault infrastructure and, on top of that, working closely with Aave to build the best native Bitcoin-backed borrowing product on Ethereum. We have 6 security audits (cost $$$$ but absolutely necessary) lined up in April. To accelerate progress and achieve product excellence, we have been hiring elite engineers and DeFi product managers. The bar is high and strict, including interviews with A16Z or Paradigm for certain positions. Some newly joined team members include the former DeFi Lead at TON, a former core engineer at Pendle who was also an ICPC champion, and a former Ethereum Foundation engineer. We hire slowly, but we only hire the best. We are also transforming our marketing and community functions towards professional product education and user support. As part of this, this week we have had to regretfully part ways with 4 existing team members. It is a very difficult but necessary step. Best wishes to all of them, and I wholeheartedly recommend them. As the product gets closer to launch, we are also expanding our BD/GTM function. We are currently looking for a motivated bilingual BD: babylonlabs.io/job-listings/s… We also have a few other positions open. Please check out our job posts. Please feel free to DM me. We pay good referral fee!

In my panel at DeFi day today, Aave's VP engineering Emilio @The3D_ mentioned that Bitcoin is kinda RWA to Aave. The partnership with Babylon will prove that Aave V4 can handle any RWA. Very encouraging to see our thinking converge!

I just got a funny thought: Bitcoin is currently an RWA. because in most cases, to work with it on-chain you need to trust someone to mint a wrapped Bitcoin for you, and also trust this counterparty to give you the native BTC when you redeem ... End of Sunday mumbo jumbo, back to making Bitcoin a proper working crypto asset, trustlessly and non-custodial.

This is the right framing from @0xBinari. Putting BTC into wrapped systems, bridges, or discretionary custody layers is not the destination. We’re building TBVs for the opposite approach: BTC remains locked on Bitcoin, users keep the core self-custody model, and external protocols can verify and use that state without custodial shortcuts, on Ethereum, and starting with @aave Featuring @bestinslotxyz

Wrapped BTC already proved the demand. Over $14B of WBTC and cbBTC is active on Ethereum today. On Aave alone, WBTC has 40.8k supplied worth $2.9B, and cbBTC has 26.1k supplied worth $1.8B. Aave itself is now above $24B TVL. So the signal is already there: BTC holders want borrowing and lending utility. Trustless Bitcoin Vaults bring that unlock to native BTC holders on Bitcoin itself, without asking them to wrap, bridge, or leave the Bitcoin network. .@menzel_clayton says it well: Bitcoin should not just be something you lock away and never use. @Ledger and Babylon are working to make Bitcoin more usable through TBVs, so users can access utility without compromising the security and self-custody setup they already trust.

@babylonlabs_io @miniminers09 Babylon is impressive tech. But tech doesn’t secure a network — incentives do. BTC staking only works if BTC holders are paid in something they actually want to hold.If BTC stakers earn an inflationary token they instantly sell, rewards become “peanuts”. Rational BTC exits,

We've completed the first Trustless Vaults experiment. We successfully borrowed USDC against native BTC on Ethereum Mainnet with @MorphoLabs. BTC is the largest capital pool in crypto and has been cut off from DeFi. We solved this. This is a historic moment. The experiment 👇
David Tse@dntse

Today's mainnet experiments demonstrate for the first time feasibility of trustless BTC-backed lending on ETH. This is enabled by the integration of multiple technologies: - BTC script design of the vault to avoid trust assumptions of bridges. - Garbled-circuit based off-chain ZK verification to reduce on-chain fees by more than two orders of magnitude from BitVM2 - ZK-VM based Ethereum light client to verify Ethereum L1 state - smart contract integration with the Morpho lending protocol on Ethereum This would not have been possible without deep collaborations with multiple teams: - @MorphoLabs - @SuccinctLabs - BitVM Alliance and @robin_linus (and a shout out to @jeremerubin for inspiring us all to go down the garbled circuit route!) Finally, kudos to the @babylonlabs_io R&D team who worked day and night to turn trustless vaults from a dream to a reality in two months. Thank you!
