@coreylee_9 Impressive. I truly would have no idea how to make it. Is it mayo based?

@wmataGM @adamconner Admittedly it’s probably been a decade since I was last in that building. But that redevolpment to housing will be a massive undertaking. Likely needs to keep facade and just gut the interior.

@atrupar And they can’t get the certification overnight. Even by Homan’s own comments, ICE won’t do screening—they’ll monitor areas, work divestiture lanes, and patrol airports. That still sets a troubling precedent. Blurring lines between security screening and immigration enforcement.

@atrupar I’m a former DHS official during the Obam years when we stood up TSA pre-check. Let’s be clear. By law, passenger screening (including ID verification) must be conducted by certified TSA officers who meet statutory training requirements. ICE agents don’t have that certification.

BASH: Are ICE agents going to move into American airports starting tomorrow? HOMAN: Yes. I'm currently working on the plan. We'll execute tomorrow. BASH: Are ICE agents even remotely trained to handle security at airports? HOMAN: ICE agents receive high-level training.

@juliettekayyem As you know @juliettekayyem by law, passenger screening—including ID verification—must be conducted by certified TSA officers who meet statutory training requirements. ICE agents are not trained or certified to do that work, and that’s not something you can stand up overnight.

Trump announced a deployment without planning regarding TSA at airports. Duffy suggests they will do pat downs and screenings. No, says Homan at same time, they will do line management at both sides of screenings. 🤷‍♀️
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

a very confused Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy on ABC: "TSA agents are law enforcement. They know how to pat people down, they know how to run the x-ray machines because they are under Homeland Security with TSA. So if we can bring in other assets and tools to assist TSA to get rid of these lines, I think that makes a lot of sense."

@Janeese4DC @kenyanmcduffie Real time is key. I Iive in ward 4 and around 8:10 am was trying to go south on 11th street. And sure enough MPD already had it blocked off. And you couldn’t drive south past Harvard. Despite the fact the marathon started only 10 mins before nearly 4 miles away.

hi @kenyanmcduffie & @Janeese4DC I would love to hear your plans on how we can prevent this annual event from stopping both North/South and East/West traffic in the District. This is so impactful to residents & businesses. And plans for MPD to do better map visuals of closures.

ICYMI: On Saturday, March 21, 2026, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon and 5K will take place in the District of Columbia. In conjunction with this event, there will be parking restrictions and street closures that motorists should take into consideration. mpdc.dc.gov/release/traffi…

@Derrick_James @kenyanmcduffie @Janeese4DC Love more user-friendly maps and real time street closures. Even the MPD press releases on street closures are hard to decipher. I totally understand the economic benefits and those are great. Or simply reorient the course so it’s less intrusive to neighborhoods.

Comms for McDuffie here. Appreciate you raising this. Major events like the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon bring real economic and community benefits to DC, but we’ve got to do a better job minimizing disruption for residents and businesses. Kenyan is focused on a few things: Improving coordination with DDOT and MPD so closures are more targeted and better timed; Requiring clearer, more user-friendly maps and real-time updates so people can plan ahead; Making sure we’re engaging impacted communities and businesses earlier in the process. We can support events that bring people into the city and do right by the folks who live and work here.

New: @PeteButtigieg has spent half of 2026 already on the road stumping for Democrats in 10 states, 5 of them battlegrounds. “Every kind of state, red, blue and purple, there are races going on and fights going on that I want to make sure I'm part of,” he told me. politico.com/news/2026/03/2…

It was a long, harsh winter in D.C. We can finally call it over. After a long and often harsh season — punctuated by persistent cold, stubborn snow and ice, and a late-season chill this week — the pattern ahead has shifted. Milder air is taking hold, and there are no meaningful signs of a return to sustained cold or accumulating snow. That means we can officially declare the winter of 2025-2026 behind us. We’ve made it a tradition to mark the onset of spring once the threat of prolonged cold and lasting snow has passed. The forecast now clearly favors warmer days, budding trees and a steady march toward spring — even if a few bumps remain along the way. The forecast ahead is promising for flowers — and for fans of warmer weather. Highs surge into the 60s on Friday and reach the 70s by Sunday. But a warning: Springlike weather doesn’t mean sustained warmth. Next week, for example, daily highs bounce between the low 50s and mid-60s — a reminder that spring is a season of swings. Still, there is little sign of any return to sustained wintry weather.

What a HORRIBLE forecast by meteorologists – especially myself. Not only were we spectacularly wrong – we communicated poorly. It became apparent last night that some of our initial expectations would prove fallacious. I'd like to address what went wrong with our forecast:
