If anyone in/around Oxford is interested in a full 22 volume set of Calvin's commentaries in good condition, let me know. (Or RT please, on the off chance that this reaches someone who is!)

Is there a CofE or Oxford anti-racism training course? I need one for ordination, but dates have gotten mixed up.

@MHHuisman Ooh who is Hadewijch? Also Bernard of Clairvaux is underrated

The annoying thing is that I made the exact same switch with my thesis (started with Aquinas, shifted to Hadewijch) - I must learn never to waste time with Aquinas! He's just not worth it, even though I've read every article on Thomistic aesthetics in the past 10 years.
M. H. Huisman@MHHuisman

Decided to rehash some research on Thomistic aesthetics for a conference abstract, only to discover after two hours that I don't enjoy Aquinas enough to write about him. Switched back to medieval mysticism/ continental philosophy -

@pastor_whitman Errr you’re missing the best so far! Origen (second and most influential interpreter of Songs.,) Augustine, Bernard of Clairvaux (who btw was hugely influential to both Luther and Calvin) @DanielJamesTay knows what he’s talking about)

People always think I’m joking when I tell them about this book. And about its sequel on 89 reasons why the rapture would be in 1989.

I like how ⁦@Dauntbooks⁩ in North Oxford has decided not just to be one moralist bookshop but to specialise in books about countries and foreign literature. I discovered that by accident this morning. It makes a trip to Summertown to browse a happy prospect.

Much fortified by a splendid homily on St Joseph, Terror of Demons in Truro this morning. (The terrorising of demons is universal. The Mass was in Truro).

@JohannesFlacius Some of Barth’s best insights were really Lutheran impulses anyway 😉

With Advent, I catch myself thinking about Karl Barth, and pulling him off the shelf again. Admittedly, I am biased by Jüngel and Jenson. But Barth’s insight – and the great contribution of Reformed theology to my mind – is that God’s arrival has no conditions – except God.
