@lisakirbie It is like watching aliens pretending to be in a government meeting, and their only reference was a South Park episode.

An equity card system is an attempt to operationalize equity in real time. The logic is coherent in theory: if historically marginalized voices get crowded out in open debate, structural intervention corrects that. BUT… 🧵

HAPPENING NOW: More from the 2026 NDP leadership convention. A young woman wearing an oversized keffiyeh makes an impassioned speech against involvement in the Iran conflict, but is quickly rebuked and reprimanded for misgendering the chair who self-identifies as "non-binary."

@AOgieglo @DrJacobsRad If gov is the only $, the budget will always be limited. Allowing private insurance lets people pay for elective care, reducing pressure on the public system. Earlier elective surgery means better outcomes and lowers individual strain on the public side.

I spoke to the CBC yesterday about the recent report that correlates higher levels of privatization with worse patient outcomes. It misses the point completely. In complex systems, correlation is rarely causation. Most of the top Scandinavian systems have blended private delivery of publicly paid services like Ontario. What Canada suffers from above all else is a lack of access to care. Private delivery of care is part of the solution. @CBCNews @CBCTheNational @ABDanielleSmith @fordnation

@ACHFraser @GeBaiDC @MaFrt1 @mcuban No, but the government dictates your quality of life, and what health care you can have based on what they deem acceptable for payment. Eg. knee replacement

No country that currently has universal care, switched to UC with multiple 100b companies dominating healthcare
GooRuu@luxhomeguy

@mcuban There are dozens (if not more) of models from other countries that already provide free healthcare to all their ppl. Academics have studied them and can guide policy if only there is the political will to do so. We don’t have to reinvent the wheel!

Toronto Star ask Carney to "square the math" on his tax cut & carbon rebate cancellation. Carney looks visibly irritated that he's getting a "gotcha" question from media that is supposed to sing his praises.

Today the Conservatives voted to take us back to a time where we can recall a tube of lipstick or a head of lettuce - but not a vitamin or supplement, even if it has been contaminated with harmful chemicals and bacteria like feces, lead or salmonella.

@AMacGregor4CML @MorganHengel what does unpaid taxes mean? are people skirting the tax laws or are you saying if wealth increases you want to tax it before it is realized? conversely, if wealth goes down will you return taxes paid?

@profgalloway Imagine what would be possible if America was led by a bold visionary person. the America that put a man on the moon, built the railway, and created the internet. It would be unstoppable.

NEOM, in Saudi Arabia, will be a 105-mile-long glass-domed mega-city in the desert, housing 9 million people with no cars, staffed by robots, and powered entirely by wind and solar. And it will have a ski slope. profgalloway.com/the-mother-of-…

@profgalloway I think you are right about tik tok algorithm, I actively dislike political content, but am constantly fed videos that are exactly that, which are negative and would make you believe the country is broken.

@glen_mcgregor @stphnmaher A true verification knowing that the person you are talking to is a real person, could actually bring a better platform. the only thing it needs is to require verified name on the account. to me that would bring civility back. no more anonymity. @elonmusk

Excellent 🧵on blue check issue. I don’t care much about mine — I was a Twitter evangelist long before I had one — but stripping verification will make the platform a lot less useful, for journalism and public discourse.
Nathan Hubbard@NathanCHubbard

1) As someone who was (briefly) in charge of the Twitter Media team - the group tasked with getting high profile people onto Twitter, and verification - AND as one of the few ever to voluntarily give up the blue check, I want to try to articulate how risky this policy change is.

@Codishaa I hire and have hired a lot. you either come with your own take on it, or do it as suggested, but we leave stuff vague to allow an opportunity for creativity and problem solving to shine. fearing stealing your post is not worth it. do everything you can to get the job.
