@xspotsdamark Yes, 1000 years ago the Jews contributed significantly to the Arab golden age.

@phillipneedham I doubt that. There's a reason the Jewish golden age happened under Arab hegemony.

@xspotsdamark Before statehood. Before Israelis had an army. When the Arabs had the upper hand they were often cruel. Israel is much more supportive and inclusive of its Arab minority than the Arab countries were of Jews.

@phillipneedham Kicked out of Gaza? It was a political stunt. Israel never left Gaza. You can't lock people in the basement of their own house & expect them to stay calm.

@xspotsdamark I don't think it's the right metaphor. After Jews got kicked out of Gaza, Judea, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, etc. They could have maybe found a way to include more of their Arab tormentors in the new nation. But Israelis have very good reasons for having walls around them.

@phillipneedham Egypt also has a wall, which was paid for by America, btw. Israel collects taxes from Palestinians, controls all utilities, controls the movement of goods, services & people, controls airspace & sea, controls all natural resources. But it's not a prison ?

@xspotsdamark They had to scale a wall to get into *Israel* - a precaution which seems warranted given subsequent events. What about Egypt?

In @nytopinion "#MeToo tried to change a culture that both concealed and enabled the illegal abuse of women and imposed hypocritical double standards," David French writes. "But events in 2024 have told us loudly and clearly that the moment has passed." nyti.ms/4gg5AJE

Trump is reportedly preparing an executive order to ban transgender Americans from serving in the military. This would medically discharge 15,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines. This is un-American and will make us less safe. But hey, a bunch of civilians on X love it.

Doing some research for an upcoming article on the last “mass deportation” of Mexicans during the 1930’s. Over half of those deported were US citizens.

Whatever the final outcome, the fact that Trump—a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, pathological liar, virulent bigot and utterly reckless manager who kowtows to Putin and despises democracy— is this close to regaining the White House is deeply disturbing.

@allenanalysis After selling so many clicks on Trump's antics, they wait until the polls undeniably turn for Kamala two days before the election. Cowards and opportunists.

🚨 BREAKING: The New York Times just dropped a full-page editorial with one message—"Vote to End the Trump Era." They're not holding back, laying out exactly how Trump’s attacks on democracy, obsession with power, and disregard for the truth make him unfit to lead. If he's re-elected, they warn, it’s game over for rights, justice, and the environment. America deserves better. Time to make it count.

I keep hearing that I shouldn’t let politics interfere with friendships. Motherfucker, if you think 11 million immigrants need to be rounded up and put in camps, we are not going to be friends.

As of yesterday, I have decided to resign from my role as a columnist for The Washington Post — a newspaper that I love. In a moment like this, everyone needs to make their own decisions. This is the reasonfor mine. 🧵

Gen X knew we lived in a silly, minor age, and that attempts to transcend that comedy merely exacerbated the comedy. The retarded pseudo-history we've lived since the emergence of Trump vindicates this perception entirely.

Boeing cut off negotiations with striking workers, claiming calls for a raise were unreasonable. The same company spent $68B on dividends and stock buybacks over the past decade and gave its last two CEOs multimillion $ golden parachutes. What's unreasonable is Boeing's greed.
