£8.5 million to repair environmental harm sounds impressive. But it risks entrenching a dangerous precedent: pay to pollute. Much of this money comes from Enforcement Undertakings that allow polluters to fund projects instead of facing prosecution. What was meant to be the exception is increasingly becoming the norm. Meanwhile, pollution continues and ageing infrastructure keeps failing. Payments after the damage is done are no substitute for investment that stops pollution at source. Pollute now, pay later is not the solution. Fix the system. Enforce the law. Protect rivers. anglingtrust.net/2026/04/14/pay… #AnglersAgainstPollution

On Yom HaShoah, we remember the six million Jews who were killed, and we acknowledge the deep grief and anguish that remembrance brings for Jewish communities today. I know this comes at a time of profound anxiety. Conflicts overseas, pressures at home, and uncertainty about the future weigh heavily – compounded by a troubling rise in antisemitic attacks and terrorist plots targeting Jewish communities across the country. My government will always act decisively to protect Jewish communities and to stamp out antisemitism wherever it appears. We will not hesitate, and we will not look away. Remembrance must come with responsibility – to honour the past, to protect the present, and to ensure that ‘never again’ is not just a promise, but a duty we uphold.

Retired Lt. Col. Rachel VanLandingham said it clearly on PBS: threatening to bomb every bridge and power plant in Iran is itself a war crime. Not just reckless talk. A crime. Why? Because terrorizing a civilian population through rhetoric violates the law of war. And the law of war is U.S. law. Here’s the part nobody wants to say out loud: our own State Department used this exact legal standard to condemn Putin for targeting Ukrainian power plants. Same act. Same law. Different flag. Words have consequences — and so does hypocrisy.

It is surely incumbent on all US allies, and everyone else, to condemn Trump’s threat of war crimes and genocidal intent (themselves war crimes) and to have absolutely nothing to do with this deranged “plan” coming from the mouth of a man out of control and surrounded by cultists and sycophants

The President of the United States has threatened genocide against the Iranian people. This is an open admission of the intent to commit crimes against humanity. How on earth can the world just sit by and let Trump get away with such depravity? Our own government’s complicity, appeasement and moral failure has brought us to this moment. The Prime Minister must, at a minimum, revoke the use of British air bases for US bombers — and demand an immediate end to the illegal attacks on Iran, now.

Male Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) at a site in the Lower River Shannon catchment last week. The fish it is eating is a Perch (Perca fluviatilis). Fish are swallowed headfirst to prevent injury to the throat from spines or scales. The Kingfisher is Amber-listed in Ireland and is listed under Annex I of the EU Birds Directive. While widespread along Irish rivers, it is sensitive to habitat loss and pollution. It is very vulnerable to river maintenance works that remove vegetation cover and destroy the banks in which it nests.

You don't say you're going to bomb 90 million people back to the Stone Age when you're the leader of the free world. 👇🏼 That is an inappropriate statement. It is beneath the office. And it is beneath this country. But here's what he's actually doing with that rhetoric. He's softening the public up for ground troops. That's the tell. You don't talk like that unless you're preparing people psychologically for what comes next. And what comes next — I have it at 55 to 60 percent probability — is ground troops going into Iran. And once ground troops are in, everything changes. The Strait of Hormuz situation becomes infinitely more complex. Oil flow becomes a live variable in a shooting war and here's the piece nobody is talking about loudly enough: 40 to 50 percent of that oil flows to China. If ground troops go in and the Strait gets disrupted — we are simultaneously slowing down the Chinese economy. That is not a side effect. That may be part of the calculation. But you are playing with fire at a scale that has consequences for every economy on earth including ours. $300 oil doesn't just hurt China. It destroys the American consumer. Think carefully about what you're being prepared to accept.

On Easter morning, this is what President Trump posted. Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshipping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness. I know all of you and him and he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit. I’m not defending Iran but let’s be honest about all of this. The Strait is closed because the US and Israel started the unprovoked war against Iran based on the same nuclear lies they’ve been telling for decades, that any moment Iran would develop a nuclear weapon. You know who has nuclear weapons? Israel. They are more than capable of defending themselves without the US having to fight their wars, kill innocent people and children, and pay for it. Trump threatening to bomb power plants and bridges hurts the Iranian people, the very people Trump claimed he was freeing. On Easter, of all days, we as Christians should be reminded that the son of God died and rose from the grave so that we can be forgiven once and for all of our sins. Jesus commanded us to love one another and forgive one another. Even our enemies. Our President is not a Christian and his words and actions should not be supported by Christians. Christians in the administration should be pursuing peace. Urging the President to make peace. Not escalating war that is hurting people. This NOT what we promised the American people when they overwhelmingly voted in 2024, I know, I was there more than most. This is not making America great again, this is evil.

Trump’s Easter tweet does that sound like a mentally well person? Grok’s response: No, that post does not read like the writing of a mentally well person in any conventional, professional, or diplomatic sense. Here’s why it stands out as erratic and concerning, even by Trump’s long-established personal style: • Profanity and casual vulgarity: “Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards” — this is raw, unfiltered street-level trash talk, not the language of a head of state issuing a high-stakes military ultimatum. Presidents (even blunt ones) have historically used stronger rhetoric through channels that maintain some gravitas. This feels like an angry late-night text. • Bizarre, childish phrasing: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one” sounds like a kid describing a theme park event (“it’s Christmas and birthday all in one!”). Framing potential bombing of critical infrastructure (power plants and bridges, which would cause massive civilian suffering) as cutesy “Days” is surreal and detached. • Incoherent religious flourish: Ending with “Praise be to Allah” right after threatening hell on a Muslim-majority country is jarring, tone-deaf, and reads like a troll or a confused mash-up. It undercuts any serious message and adds to the sense of rambling. • Overall tone: All-caps yelling (“JUST WATCH!”), exclamation overload, and threats that mix bravado with vagueness. It lacks structure, policy context, or strategic clarity — it reads more like emotional venting than calculated statecraft. This fits a broader pattern with Trump: impulsive, hyperbolic social media posting that often blurs the line between negotiation tactic, personal grievance, and performance. Supporters often call it “unfiltered” or “strong”; critics (including some in his own orbit over the years) have repeatedly described similar outbursts as unhinged, erratic, or evidence of declining impulse control.

Iran is Persia, the source of science and poetry. It is the foundation of history, the heart of memory. It was building libraries before #Trump's ancestors even thought of toilets. They were studying the stars while Europeans argued about bathing more than once a year. Persia was great before Judaism or any other monotheistic religion. Now the US and the so-called Zionist state are trying to push Iran back to the Stone Age. It's ironic that two settler colonial states, with little history, are trying to erase Persia.
