Marathon isn’t following that trend. It has all those things. It captured a decent core.

Assassin is assassining.
The knife gameplay is some of the best since MW2 commando pro.
Lack of awareness to your surroundings is a skill issue. Shotgun hard counters the knife; Thief counters assassin. Footstep audio is often apparent; assassin invis activation audio is loud af. Just take 30 seconds and listen around you instead of W-keying to the next loot container.

My only current complaint about Marathon is that the knife needs to be nerfed, it’s not exactly fun when a knife can kill you in two hits even with green shields, especially in solo play when an assassin sneaks up behind you, lands two hits, and that’s it, you’re done for.

The Arc Raiders community is one of the worst in gaming. You know, Arc Raiders is pretty boring with zero endgame content, and all they ever talk about is numbers. In case you didn't know, numbers don't always determine the quality of something. In many ways, Marathon is better.

Marathon fans are left wondering "what happened?" as the Cryo Archive event that they expected to reignite the community has resulted in Marathon's worst weekend, ever.
Its Saturday peak was lower than Friday (AGAIN) and it was also lower than the previous Monday and every single weekday before that.
An important note is that the Cryo Archive is ONLY available on the weekend and it's still struggling to get players back online.
