I don't agree that the quality of AI writing is better but all the stuff about Google falling asleep at the wheel.... yeah, I remember when we all collectively agreed that was a problem but now like to pretend it never happened and ask "whatever happened to just googling things?"

Well "written" by humans is vastly overstating what the internet was prior to ChatGPT. Do you include all of the article remixing, copy and paste SEO farm bullshit that clogged up Google for 15 years? The truth is that - as Google fell asleep at the wheel - the internet has gotten worse and worse. Humans have been using tools to SEO game the search engines for two decades, and much of it was unreadable garbage. As much as I fear the death of human thought at the hands of AI-written convenience - because after all the act of writing is the act of thinking - I have to admit that the average AI written explanation of a basic topic is better than vast swaths of what the internet has been.
