So Emmanuel Macron is landing in Nairobi for a France-Africa summit branded “Forging Onwards | Africa Forward.” Forging Onward? To where? To Paris? Let’s be serious. How do you talk about Africa “moving forward” while France still controls the monetary systems of several West African countries through the CFA franc and exploits them? How do you preach partnership when African gold, uranium, and resources have enriched France for decades and continue to, while those same countries struggle? After the brutalities and crimes the French committed in Africa? West Africa has already started pushing France out. That’s not theory, that’s reality. Now, suddenly, the same France is hosting a “future of Africa” summit in Kenya? This is not about Africa. This is about influence. This is about control. This is about rebranding. Colonialism didn’t end. It evolved. And now it shows up in suits, conferences, and slogans like “Africa Forward.” Kenya must be careful not to become the new gateway for old colonization systems that Africans are actively rejecting. Africa doesn’t need saving. Africa needs space to breathe, without strings attached.
