Seth Hernandez’s night is done!
- 4.0IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 1BB, 7SO’s
Strikeouts are all here!
This guys mix of pitches is insane. Truly insane.
Fastball hit 101mph tonight🔥
@paralacalle2250 Probably doesn’t fit into the lineup this season but he’s shown a lot of good things in AAA. Thought he might have been a Greensboro merchant last season but he’s had an insanely impressive AFL-spring-AAA, and I think he has the stuff that actually matters. 73-75 batspeed I think
@Based412@DanZangrilli Yeah there’s a lot of factors, but they’ve been lucky flyballs haven’t been leaving the park with the amount of walks they’ve been giving up. still hard not to feel great about how they are doing though
In my mind the Pirates have 2 options for 3b:
1. Get a legit upgrade over Triolo that sends Triolo to the bench when Griffin is up (Paredes)
2. Get a solid vet who won’t be a detriment to the team until Griffin is up (Ramon Urias)
Young/unproven guys don’t make sense to me
@horwitzburgh@JustBB_Media@Ken_Rosenthal bro how good do you think cj is? Seth and Florentino are both top 50 prospects with crazy upside. Abrams is awful defensively and hasn't been consistent offensively at all.
The Nationals are receiving major trade interest in CJ Abrams, per @Ken_Rosenthal
While the price is high, the Nationals are open to having conversations on both him and Gore.
Well no, we don't actually have a person picking comps at all. It's a correlation analysis that selects the best match between their projected data and that of past major leaguers. The model finds one match based on full regression applied (50th percentile outcome) and one based on no regression applied (90th percentile outcome). Griffin doesn't have a strong-enough 90th percentile outcome for a match, which means his data is pretty unique, but for the "average" outcome he pulls Trea Turner.
Personally, Bobby Witt & EDLC seem like good comps, but they are younger in their careers and so we don't have very mature datasets for them yet really.
Griffin currently projects for 23 HR & 41 SB per 600 PA, good batting average, which is where it's picking up on Turner as his match.
Konnor Griffin walked away from the 2025 season as the unanimous STS Prospect of the Year. He is also the model's #1 hitting prospect.
His current model comp? Trea Turner.
The Pittsburgh Pirates SHOULD do this.
- Sign Sung-Song Mun to play 3B
- Sign Munetaka Murakami to play 1B/DH
- Move Spencer Horwitz to 2B
- Start Konnor Griffin at SS
- Trade for Heston Kjerstad for cheap
If you can’t sign Murakami, then go after Kazuma Okamoto
🚨 Johan Oviedo is “one of the starters the Pirates would entertain moving for the right position-player return” per @Ken_Rosenthal
Also noted that the Pirates are NOT necessarily eager to trade him
@JCampy@PFF_Nicky booker has been pretty good actually. especially the last few weeks since injury. the 3 other guys u mentioned were late round picks, were you really expecting them to be stars?
@PFF_Nicky Tyler Booker has underperformed
Jaydon Blue has underperformed
James has been average at LB
Toea has been average at DT
So no, he didn’t crush the 2025 draft.
The Guyton/Kneeland & Mazi/Schoon drafts were atrocious too.
@tomstakes Dotson first read is on play caller. O line collapse immediately is on players. AJ least open when at release + safety still a factor. Jalen throws ball too close to middle of field for inside leverage from Flott. You want to not blame one person and talk real ball, do it then.
