Getting lots of people offering their theories as to why this is the case. A potential read of things is that PHM is just very easy to fandomize and the whole hopecore energy around the movie is an attempt to make being part of the fandom more important than it actually is.

I’m probably very late to the discourse but it’s just odd that people cling so hard to the Project Hail Mary is hopecore thing & don’t really seem to care about a movie like OBAA. Or even like The Bone Temple, which has a very hopeful message at its core!
