‼️Tammy update 21 May‼️ Posted with Nour’s approval. The message I never wanted to write. Tammy is still with us, but doctors have now confirmed that the extent of the complications and the damage to her body are irreversible and, heartbreakingly, not survivable. Right now, she is being kept alive by machines while Nour tries to process the unimaginable weight of this news and face decisions no one should ever have to make, whilst refusing to give up hope of a miracle. For now, her care continues as they take the time needed to navigate these devastating moments. I have not stopped crying since hearing the news. I put on my CWNH T-shirt tonight just to feel a little closer to her. I know many of you will have questions, but right now I ask that we collectively wrap our arms around Nour and send all our love to the indomitable spirit that is Tammy. I also know many people have been worried about the cats. When the time comes, Nour will continue caring for them as we face a world without Tammy in it. I have been waiting for a more detailed update before posting this but sadly the doctors have informed Nour that Tammy has suffered brain damage due to the lack of oxygen during her 9 minutes cardiac arrest. At present it is not clear how extensive. Will post more when more is known.

‼️ Tammy update 18 May ‼️ Nour has been provide a report with a lot of jargon so ai has helped once again.m In addition to the below, Nour has not been able to see her since yesterday as Tammy has a blood clot in her leg that can break easily and travel to her lungs. If anyone touch her improperly, it may risk breaking the blood clot. Her situation remain critical In plain language: This report says the patient went through a very serious, potentially fatal medical crisis. At some point, she had a major heart-related emergency, and during that event her body wasn’t getting enough oxygen. That means her organs and tissues were essentially being “starved” of oxygen for a period of time. Because of this, her body chemistry became dangerously unbalanced. The report calls this “mixed metabolic and respiratory acidosis,” which basically means too much acid built up in her body because her lungs and body systems weren’t able to clear it properly. This is a sign the body was under extreme stress and not functioning normally. The worst period was in the early morning, right after this emergency happened. That was when her condition was most critical and life-threatening. After that, doctors kept her on constant intensive care treatment (close monitoring, medications, breathing/circulatory support, and other ICU-level interventions). The good news in the report is that the repeated blood tests over the next 24 hours show gradual improvement: Her oxygen levels and body chemistry were starting to move closer to normal. Her body was responding to treatment. She was stabilizing, even though she was still in serious condition. So the overall message is: She was in real danger after a severe cardiac event, but over that 24-hour period the medical team managed to pull her from the worst point. @catswithnohope

‼️ Tammy update ‼️ Long post warning. Nour has shared a LOT of medical information with me and I have used chat GPT to break it down in layman terms. Posting all this with his permission. In plain language: she is extremely critically ill, and several of her organs are under severe stress at the same time. The test results suggest the ICU team is dealing with kidney failure, worsening blood chemistry, stress on the liver, severe infection, and seizure activity in the brain. Here’s what each part means more simply: 1. Her kidneys are struggling more today The kidneys normally filter waste out of the blood. Her numbers (creatinine, urea, eGFR) suggest they are filtering very poorly right now, and slightly worse than yesterday. Creatinine and urea going up = waste products are building up in her blood instead of being removed eGFR of 10 = kidney function is extremely low (normal is usually much higher) Why this matters: When kidneys fail, harmful waste and minerals build up, which can affect the heart, brain, lungs, and blood chemistry. ⸻ 2. Her blood is becoming dangerously acidic again Normal blood has to stay in a very narrow balance. Her pH of 7.166 means her blood is too acidic, and it worsened compared to yesterday. This usually happens when the body is under extreme stress from things like: severe infection (sepsis) poor oxygen delivery failing kidneys low blood pressure / poor circulation Why this matters: If blood becomes too acidic, cells stop working properly, and the heart and other organs struggle. ⸻ 3. Her potassium is elevated Potassium helps control the heart’s electrical rhythm. Her level is mildly high right now (5.44). This often happens when kidneys aren’t clearing potassium properly. Why this matters: If potassium keeps rising, it can trigger dangerous abnormal heart rhythms, which is why ICU teams monitor it closely. ⸻ 4. Her liver is under shock/stress (“shock liver”) AST and ALT are liver injury markers. Her AST is very high, which often means the liver temporarily isn’t getting enough blood flow or oxygen. This commonly happens in ICU patients when: blood pressure has dropped severe infection causes poor circulation the body is in shock Why this matters: It means her body has recently been under major circulatory stress. Sometimes this improves if circulation stabilizes. ⸻ 5. Her brain is not functioning normally right now The EEG says the whole brain is slowed down (“diffuse cerebral dysfunction”). This often happens in severe ICU illness because of: sepsis organ failure low oxygen heavy sedation metabolic imbalance (like the acidity/kidney problems) This means her brain is under stress, but by itself it does not always mean permanent damage. ⸻ 6. The most serious brain finding: hidden continuous seizures This is what “non-convulsive status epilepticus” means. Her brain is having continuous seizure activity, but because she is sedated, there may be no visible shaking or twitching. The EEG is the only way doctors can see it. Why this matters: This is a medical emergency because prolonged seizure activity can exhaust and injure brain tissue. That’s why they’re likely adjusting: anti-seizure medication sedation medications (to suppress the seizure activity) This is the ICU trying to “quiet” the brain and let it rest. ⸻ 7. The infection is very hard to treat The bacteria (Acinetobacter baumannii infection) is known for being highly resistant to antibiotics. That means doctors have fewer treatment options and often must use very strong last-line antibiotics like Colistin. Why this matters: This kind of infection can be extremely difficult to clear, especially when someone is already critically ill. ⸻ Putting it all together This report is essentially saying: Her body is in a severe whole-body crisis. The infection is overwhelming her system, and it is affecting: kidneys blood chemistry heart rhythm risk liver brain electrical activity.

Today’s update: Tammy remains in the ICU, but her condition has become much more critical. She is now fighting active Sepsis and a collapsed lung (pneumothorax) on top of her kidney failure. She is unstable and remains incapacitated

I have to share how incredible she is. A few days ago, and even again recently, the doctors warned me that she might not make it. They were looking at her lab numbers and seeing a crisis. But they don't know Tammy like we do. She has spent her whole life defying 'textbook' medicine. Today, she proved them wrong again. She’s off the ventilator, she’s smiling, and she’s showing more strength than anyone expected. The doctors see the 'scary' numbers, but she is showing us the 'warrior' heart. She’s still in a fight, but she’s winning

Her body has been under a lot of stress with her blood sugar and some heart and lung issues, and the doctors decided this was the best way to let her rest and recover. Admin Post: Last night something happened that made my heart swell so big it almost hurt… in the very best way. ❤️ Back in the fall, sweet black Lab puppy Mars, a service dog prospect, spent a few precious weeks with us for some exposure training. He was only 5 months old — playful, curious, and a little unsure of the big city world. Whenever something new worried him, he’d quietly tuck himself just behind my wheelchair, peeking out from his safe spot while I gave him all the time he needed to feel brave. Last night, I brought baby Rottweiler Kenji (our big Moose) to his very first group class without Chesnyy. After class, the dogs got some joyful off-leash play time… and one of the staff brought Mars in to join. He entered the room a bit nervous — so many more dogs than he normally sees in the training room, so much energy. But the moment his eyes found me… he came straight to me. ❤️ Not bouncing wildly, but gently placing his front paws on my lap, covering my face in soft, trusting kisses. Then he stayed right there, pressed close, choosing me as his safe place in a room full of uncertainty. He could have gone to his breeder. He could have stayed with the staff who see him every day. But out of everyone in that room… he picked me. The girl in the wheelchair he’d only known for those few short weeks last fall. Even once he relaxed and started playing, he kept coming back to check in with me, like I was his anchor. I don’t know if there’s any deeper compliment a dog can give than saying with their whole heart, “You make me feel safe.” And as if that wasn’t enough to melt me completely… Kenji was an absolute superstar on his very first night in this class. The youngest dog there by far, he tackled targeting (even into a tricky plastic tote!), stayed mostly focused through all the distractions, redirected like a pro, stayed perfectly polite and quiet, and had a wonderful time playing with the group. A few folks even mistook our growing Moose for Chesnyy! It was great. My heart is still overflowing. Two special boys reminding me why we pour our hearts into this work — the quiet trust that lingers, the beautiful growth, and the pure love dogs give so freely. 🥹❤️

For over four years after my boys died, I couldn’t step foot inside the cemetery. I’d drive by, whisper a quiet “hello” and keep going… the pain was just too heavy. Then in 2025, I finally went in. I laid down on the ground beside them, cried my eyes out, and begged Jesus for a sign. 💔 He didn’t show me anything that day. I still don’t know if I need a regular relationship with this place. I want so badly to be a good mom to them — but the thought of standing in front of their tombstone shakes me to my core. This week, something struck me while reading the Bible: it never mentions Saint Mary visiting Jesus’ tomb. Could it be because she knew in her heart that He would conquer death? Or what exactly? Why did others rush to the tomb but not her? I don’t have the answers… just a grieving and trying to find my way.
