The dire state of corridor care and overcrowding in Northern Ireland’s EDs has been revealed following a new survey of lead consultants. Carried out on the morning of 8 December, across all nine all ages EDs, it revealed staff are dreading coming to work, departments are over capacity with patients being cared for in non-clinical areas, and there’s no resuscitation spaces. Question here is why? Where is data on numbers of delayed discharge, causes and responses? Estimates suggest on any given day, 500 people in NI medically fit to go home, but stuck in hospital. Is it simply a lack of home care packages? How can we fix it, without the data?
