@jkparker @IFrank_GIS @AmericanFietser Nice! It may not be quite what we know as a typical Dutch kids bike rack (which is usually a scaled-down version of the adult one with its large tubing), but it’ll def do the job! The Dutch kids ones have been hard to find sold separately. Prob bc they’re usually sold w the bike.

@jkparker @IFrank_GIS @AmericanFietser Thanks for thinking of us. You’re right, we couldn’t find kids racks from our Dutch suppliers so we dont have them. Kids bikes with racks, yes. Plenty of them. FYI: our sewing team will make kids panniers. Anyway, we’re sure the ones you got will be great! ✌🏽

Today #Amsterdam starts a transition experiment of 6 weeks that reclaims a car dominated street as public space. There are already some important lessons about the importance of language. 1/🧵

“A person on a bicycle can go three to four times faster than the pedestrian, but uses five times less energy in the process. Equipped with this tool, humans outstrip the efficiency of not only all machines but all other animals as well.” - Ivan Illich, ‘Energy & Equity’ (1973)

Normally, we all ride together on Friday. After a pandemic, we also celebrate on Saturday. But not this year. Not without Ukraine. Soon we'll all ride together. Meanwhile, support #BikesForUkraine. Read how and why: WinterBiketoWorkDay.org

Studies have shown men to be twice as likely as women to travel using individual vehicles. This is part of a long history of men dominating the automotive industry, elevating vehicles over all other modes of transportation, and linking vehicles to their masculine identities. 🧵

The Hovenring gets attention but Eindhoven also has this cool bicycle interchange. It's a clever solution for navigating what would otherwise be a dangerous and inhospitable environment for people on bikes.

Our streets need to be urgently redesigned to prioritise active travel and mitigate against more frequent extreme weather events. Here’s an example from Cardiff using sustainable drainage systems, new street trees and an improved environment for pedestrians crossing.

Dutch railways have built 300,000 bike parking spaces since 2019. From that process, they have developed nine design principles: 1. Proximity (to Platform) 2. Always Space 3. Safety 4. Good Flow 5. Comfort & Ease 6. Free of Charge 7. Sheltered 8. Service Available 9. Sustainable

A train that runs on 100% wind power, at a station that runs on 100% sun power, fed by a bike that runs on 100% leg power. The technology needed for a better mobility future isn’t waiting to be discovered by corporations; it exists and is waiting to be discovered by politicians.

@TempestaRubida @KendraWrites Probably a lot, bc its already a hybrid model. Even if it were 100% private, the public purse pays somehow. Inefficiencies in healthcare and in transportation tend to show up as lost productivity. But maybe @AmericanFietser knows? We’re tweeting from the wrong place… 🍁
