“My immigrant parents are in a hospital in LA — and neither of them speaks English.” There was no interpreter on staff, so the doctors asked her to translate. “This is Los Angeles. DONT tell my parents to learn English — that’s your problem, not ours.”

Payroll hedging is one of the most interesting use cases for prediction markets. Every October a big tech CFO locks in next year's payroll budget across many teams. Then inflation hits and makes cost of living higher -> engineers want raises, recruiting gets expensive, and suddenly you're millions over budget with no plan. So what the CFO can do is buy a Kalshi contract that pays out if inflation is higher than expected. If inflation comes in higher than expected the payout offsets the increase and if it doesn't only the small premium they paid from the start is lost. A known cost you planned for is always better than a surprise one you didn't, and big companies care about this because locking in certainty is worth paying for.
Kalshi Research@KalshiResearch

Kalshi founder on institutional adoption: "Block trades are already live on the platform...Right now a trade that we're seeing a lot is in the $20-30 million range for payroll hedging"

Something to grasp: the hallucinations are the feature, not the bug. LLMs are amazing *because* they hallucinate. Now code can do something it wasn’t specifically told to do. It doesn’t replace deterministic code. It’s a new special function you can call that didn’t exist before.
Joe Weisenthal@TheStalwart

The critics who talk about LLM's hallucination problem are, IME, completely correct. Other than for coding, I just use the chatbots as glorified search engines, and I don't think you should trust a word they say if you can't find a link to back it up.

Americans have an absolute right to demand assimilation from every immigrant. Do the Japanese have a right to demand cultural assimilation? If you say no, then you are not describing consensual immigration. You’re describing cultural cleansing against a native population’s will.
Shadi Hamid@shadihamid

Should a minority community's right to be in America depend on their willingness to converge with the cultural mainstream? No, it shouldn't depend on that. It shouldn't depend on anything. We're all Americans, after all.

@TheStalwart it is likely just one person, which is why the opsec is so good. they're not only smart and principled, but silent, stealthy and avoid maximizing attack surfaces through collaborators or confidants.

How are people not fascinated by the origin of Satoshi? Whether it’s one guy or a group, to invent this gigantic novel thing, and to have such incredible OpSec in this day and age is a wild story
markgoodw.in@markgoodw_in

@TheStalwart @JohnCarreyrou i still dont get the fascination about it being a mythical, singular entity, as opposed to a team. seems far more likely a team, even if there was an individual responsible for writing/voice/public comms.

@feelsdesperate what are we even talking about? a nation is formed from shared, collective principles of its people. 'not assimilating' is antithetical to that idea. get the fuck out if you dont want to assimilate.

What Hamid is saying is virtually identical to what populist nativists who want zero or close-to-zero highly selective immigration are saying: Certain groups have no intention of assimilating because it’s totally antithetical to their culture, religion, and identity to do so. I guess the only question is what political conclusions you draw from this: do you want a fractured, Balkanized polity that is at odds with itself? And if so, why?

@TheStalwart @JohnCarreyrou i just responded to someone that fwiw i think satoshi has been unmasked (perhaps it is adam back after all) but given satoshi's apparent ethos, they will never cop to it. this will remain an enigma, thankfully.

@shadihamid @washingtonpost assimilation is how a society cross-pollinates to create a culture that works for everyone. this brain-dead opinion column (there is a reason most opinion columns are worth less than toilet paper) misses that point, as usual. because it's all about your fucking victimhood.

We're directing over $100M to scientists mapping the disease, designing drugs, & more. I wrote about it here: openaifoundation.org/news/ai-for-al…

@mdudas it's likelier that satoshi has really been unmasked but given the principles they created btc with (including locking up an insane amount to preserve its future value) they will never cop to it. and that's great.
