Yesterday was my birthday and I asked my wife the night before for a birthday request. Something that doesn’t happen enough after decades of marriage. Something every man wants for his birthday. I asked if we could get to church earlier than normal.

@revcjackson I would also add a big influence from Explosions In The Sky as well.

@revcjackson I haven't listened to contemporary worship music in a while so I may be wrong but I think they got stuck in the Snow Patrol/Coldplay-esq sound. So they are about 25 years behind secular trends.

The weird thing about contemporary praise and worship music is that it has no secular counterpart anymore. It sounds nothing like what's on the Billboard charts. It's truly become its own liturgical musical tradition, operating independently from secular culture.

This whole ordination sermon seems fitting with what is going on between the LCMS and AALC right now. Psalm 69:6 — Let not those who wait for You, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed because of me; Let not those who seek You be confounded because of me, O God of Israel.

@WillPrydain Definitely a cool word. I first came across it in "The Lutheran Pastor" by Gerberding. And have continually come across it since.

@pleas_evans What an interesting term, "seelsorger"! One definition I found was "caretaker of souls" and that's really apt.

My special needs brother lives in a group home. The employees are on strike. He has been living with my parents for the last 10 days because employee's weren't showing up to work. Please pray for my brother, it is very unsettling for him, and my parents as they care for him.

Just finished Christus Victor by Gustaf Aulén. I had plans to start Vol. 2 of Pieper's Dogmatics but I am going to call an audible and go with another Swede.
