@609ZE @PaulSkallas I live in one of those red northern counties, and i can tell you that a big part of it is old liberal Chicagoans moving in and annoying the locals

@PaulSkallas No that’s mostly just economically stagnant cities if it were rich northwoods retirees then crow wing county would be red. Same with Maine. The darkest red counties aren’t really lake house country it’s poor logging communities

People talk about retirees going to Florida. But for lots of midwesterns from Chicago, Minneapolis, and Wisconsin they retire to their lake house in the upper midwest.

@jessuppi For my clients a CMS still matters. But, I dont set them up in WP - technical debt quickly adds up. Im putting them on Webflow.

End of the WP era? Kind of... Many of us have put years of our life into WordPress and it feels scary to admit but the landscape is changing As I've said before I think WooCommerce is really the (only) future for WP in terms of market share But imo SSGs are an overhyped trend
Joost de Valk@jdevalk

I built Yoast SEO. I ran my blog on WordPress for years. Then yesterday I moved it to static HTML. Everything that matters, SEO, search, schema, is still there. What I dropped was the overhead. Do you actually need a CMS? For quite some sites: no. joost.blog/do-you-need-a-…

My friend, a Sunni Muslim was telling me about these Imans in rural areas of Pakistan who knock people over by waiving their hands and claim to heal people. He showed me a video and it looked like the equivalent of West Virginia in the 80's. He had no idea we have the same thing and when I showed him Benny Hinn it blew his mind.

Many expositors comment that Lazarus of Bethany was well-regarded, respected, of stature. Augustine uses him as a figure for those given over entirely to sin.

I'd go further: Husbandly behaviors aren't attractive from the outside. Protectiveness, thrift, piety, self-sacrifice, etc. in a husband helps the household thrive. Hopefully, he is loved an appreciated within the household for all that, but it won't win him any popularity contets outside of it.

There's a sort of fundamental problem that husbandly behaviors aren't easy to see from the outside, or the "before" world. Maybe wanting this is part of the reason for the decline. How would you "get" a friend or stranger(!) into a place where they could be husbandly?

Most churches waste money on promotions. Yours doesn’t have to. Here’s how to promote your Christmas services (and other events) for free — using one simple tool: a press release, an old school promotions tactic that still has legs. 🧵

The younger generation in my extended family includes a nuclear sub officer, a Wizzo, and a West Point cadet. Our generation who raised them - heartland Christian types with good brains, intact marriages, and made the kids do sports. That's the noble class in the USA.

america has a petty nobility class comprised of high-skilled technical workers and thinkers and this is blatantly obvious to anybody who’s ever met the family of a fighter pilot

@revcjackson Small business owners have equity, but they also have risk (usually, all of it). A pastor is an employee with no personal risk. Small business owners also typically don’t have trustees and elder boards with which to share major decisions and guidance.

Since pastoral compensation is something we're all talking about right now, the one thing I'm going to throw out there is that the sole or senior pastor has a roughly equivalent role to a small-business-owner, except he doesn't gain equity in anything. He's expected to have ownership-equivalent agency without actual ownership (and without ownership authority, too.) I think a lot of people approach this issue by comparing the pastor to an employee. That's not quite as close a comparison.
